OK - bit of background
I have a rooted desire HD using Android Revolution HD, & I've just brought a 16Gb Samsung Class 6 MicroSD card from Amazon

What I did initially was connect the phone up as 'Hard drive', & placed the [new] 16Gb MicroSD card into it's adaptor > SDCard reader > USB slot on PC - & copied direct from Phone onto the MicroSD card... that went fine

Unmounted [old] 8Gb card > removed from phone > added [new] 16gb card to phone.... card mounted & I tried out a few apps that I knew were stored on the card - everything seems to works fine

... now onto the problem

IF I NOW connect the phone up to PC then Select 'Hard Drive' mode - the PC see's it,
but IF I try copying files from PC to the phone - XP keeps 'losing' the card/phone connection after copying over a few files & comes up with 'Please insert a disk into drive...' message (I've tried single files one at a time and even a group at a time)... Copying from phone to PC seems OK though

Now I've tried 2 different data cables & different USB slots on the PC (both front & rear - even tried through a powered HUB) but it still happens..
(BTW My PC is old so it only has USB 2 slots) - So I'm thinking it's the phone that's knocking out the connection for some reason (to fast Data transfer through the connector possibly ??)

Has anyone else had a problem like this - & did they find a cure for it ?? (I've NOT reformatted the 16Gb card as it was brand new to start off with)

Otherwise I'll have to remove the card from the phone & put it into a card reader OR I have to keep disconnecting/reconnecting the phone each time it f**ks up when transferring from PC to phone

Any help appreciated - & thanks in advance

Well, just to be sure
- I did what you said & used the Panasonic Formatter (Full wipe/Format - NOT a quick one) - Nope... still doing it

I guess it's just 'one of those things' I'll have to live with.
Thanks for the help anyway

Well seems like a lot been viewing this post, but no-one got a solution......
.... guess it's one of those weird unique problems I've got then :(
People not answering is usually because you cant read fast what the problem is and therefore they dont bother. After reading what i could understand is that theres a connection problem and its not caused by the cable. Using a microsd adapter ain't a viable option?

I'll answer that with another question....

What would YOU like to do when you want to transfer files to/from your phone (Like photos/music/documents etc)???

Would you....
> Drop your phone into a cradle
> Select 'Disk Drive' when asked
> Copy files to/from phone in the window that pops up on the PC
> When finished - Slide down the status bar & tap 'Disk Drive', change it to 'Charge'
> take the phone out of the cradle
OR
> Tap 'menu'
> Tap 'settings'
> Tap SD & Phone Storage
> Tap 'Unmount SD Card'
> Remove the phones protective 'gel' case (I have such a case on the phone)
> Slip off the Sim/sd cover on the phone
> Take out the sd
> Place into Adaptor
> Plug into USB slot
> Transfer files to.from the sd card
> 'Safely disconnect' USB device
> Take out sd card from the adaptor
> Put into phone
> Slip back the SIM/SD cover onto the phone
> Replace 'Gel' cover

I know what I'd like to do ;)

Incidentally - since I've posted this, I'm beginning to think it IS something to do with the PC & not the phone.....
I've tried my phone on one of the PC's in work (it has XP, but has lower specs than my home PC - & I DON'T have Admin access on it either) & THAT doesn't seem to cause any drops off when I try copying numerous files over to it, so I'm now looking into what MIGHT be causing it - perhaps my home Antivirus [Avast] (or something similar) is causing it ??

Well it's something to look into

Gigabit?

Also, not having the card recognised has happened in the past to me, but it works again when it wants, or if you pick another port, sometimes.

@ terminator02: found out that an app I already had on the phone (Fileexpert) had WiFi file transfer feature already (just never knew how to use it) for both FTP and WEB access.
Tried FTP with Filezilla & it seems to be working fine in both directions (To/From phone)

@ Originality: Actually I DIDN'T already tried that out... Anyway, both the Class '2' and '4' 8GB cards I've got worked fine transferring back & forth via USB cable, but the Class 6 still has problem transferring TO the phone....Very weird

Still at least I've got the WiFi option, which is better than taking/swapping the card around

Many thanks everyone for your help

I know it sounds surreal, but I had that problem and it was related to the miniUSB cable only. I know you tried two, but rather than connecting your Android device, check out the card by connecting a USB card reader instead and check if the problem still surfaces.

Well - as I said in original post
........placed the [new] 16Gb MicroSD card into it's adaptor > SDCard reader > USB slot on PC - & copied direct from Phone onto the MicroSD card... that went fine
So there's no problem, as far as I can see, with the actual card since I was able to transfer the whole contents of the original card (nearly 8GB) onto the 16GB with no problems.
I also can't see it being the USB cable being the problem - as you are correct - I have tried 2 different data cables.

All I know is that on my Home PC there is 'something' that causes my Android phone to 'disconnect' at random time, when files are transferred to the 16GB class 6 MSD only - but it's (seems) ok on other PC's
