The problem with Priiloader is when it started to be one of the mandatory step in every "soft-mod" solutions or "unlock" tutorials out there.

At a result, it ended up being installed in many Wiis when most users probably never needed it in the first place, and most likely does not understand what it exactly does and how dangerous it can be.

Preloader was a neat idea (like many hacking stuff are) and even if I can't speak for DacoTaco's coding ability or seriousness, priiloader sure has some interesting features but this programs should never has been advertised like they have been.
Once installed it doesn't pose any real threat. It does, however, let you recover from several types of bricks.

Just because it worked 3 times for you, does not mean it will work everytime. Numerous factors can affect the installation of Priiloader. It is inherently dangerous due to the very fact it replaces System Menu with itself. It must be assumed that any process that replaces an essential part of any system's software is extremely dangerous unless HIGHLY tested (from what I gather, Priiloader has nowhere near the extensive testing that should be performed before even considering the release of a tool so invasive and potentially dangerous) and coded with dozens of safety checks etc. (For example, the HackMii Installer used to install BootMii will only run on very specific IOS [completely unpatched IOS only] and is presumably tested very thoroughly before release).

3 repeat values does not represent a reliable result. 1 brick is 1 too many IMO. (I have heard of NO reported bricks from HackMii Installer, amongst over 600K installations of HBC, presumably fewer of BootMii - I have heard of dozens of Priiloader related bricks, from far fewer installs)

It's a shame Priiloader has caused so many bricks, it does have some nice functionality, and has made a few decent improvements over preloader (the switch to the hash_hacks format is one of the good ideas). However, it is also a shame that at least a few of those who have bricked never needed Priiloader in the first place, and just installed it because they blindly followed guides or advice online.

It is relatively safe though. Just for clarity, it doesn't replace the System Menu, just a piece of it.
Wow man. By the way you said that, it sounds like you are down playing the delicateness of it.

The "just a piece of it" makes it sound rather minor, but the fact is that the "piece" you speak of is the most important part, and if that gets messed up then your are screwed unless you have bootmii in boot2.

when they do a heart transplant, they only replace a small part of you. by weight, it is somewhere around 1% of your entire body. by your logic, it isnt a dangerous procedure at all. its only one teeny tiny piece. you might not even need it at all. hell, lets just start getting kindergardeners to do it so we can cut the costs.

I never said it was a tiny piece, or that it made it safe. I don't know why you think I did. I'm saying that the latest non-beta installer is relatively safe, and that it doesn't replace the entire System Menu.

0.6 nearly bricked a wii for me.

0.7 seems better and a bit more stable. I think HBC with its "wireless connection bug" plus priiloader, can help too to brick a wii

This is why I still use 0.6 installing on cios36, tested and working on thousands of wiis. Just have not yet had the balls to change something that is working fine. Most of the priiloader brick I see lately are from MMM, have not seen many priiloader bricks since 0.5, some on 0.6 with ahbprot. 0.7 seams to be free of issues, I would say it is probably as tested as it can be at this point.

Mind explaining that?

I installed priiloader 0.6 onto a friend's wii having HBC 1.0.7 without a wireless connection defined. (When I loaded priiloader 0.6 installer, took me 1 sec while the wireless icon kept flashing at the bottom of the screen). The priiloader installer had loaded sucesfully; the installation went sweet too, but once I restarted the wii from a cold boot, didn't turn on at least 3 times. A corrupted files detected emerged on screen, but luckily I was able to load priiloader's boot menu lol. AHBPROT flag was also introduced in 0.6

1) the AHBPROT flag in priiloader was introduced in 0.5
2) the issue you describe has nothing to do with the installer and the HBC bug. i'd rather say its boot2/IOS or hacks issues then anything else

Somebody should really do a good test in a controlled environment...I hear Wii bricking all over but almost never with which version and nothing about any other thing which can influence installing, like what tutorial was used or what was installed already on the Wii.

Now, after i read this topic (and others) i still am not convinced either way, i only see a lot of ranting.

1. Ok (?)
2. no it wasn't. Somehow while I used 0.6 on any wii connected to internet, I hadn't a single problem. But on this one, and strangely it didn't have any wifi(wireless) profile added. And i'll take tueidj advice, fake account lolwut??

Hello.:)

I never knew this risk was so bad.
Not today with Version 0.8 and higher.
It is the same "Risk" like installing Unlaunch on an Nintendo DSi.
Someone above said:

Priiloader doesn't brick Wii's, idiots brick Wii's

Well,it is a little "exaggerated".In General,if you follow "The Guide" nearly nothing can happen (except you have exactly in the same Second a Power Shortage when installing the Priiloader.....)

So the risk today is reduced to absolut Minimum (latest Version is 0.9,by the Way).

Thank you.:)
