How we cover AI-assisted projects - GBAtemp community check-in

GBAtemp Banner.png

It’s about that time of year again where I check in with the community to see if we can get the front page aligned with what people are interested in knowing and what people are interested in talking about. As the title might have given away, there’s one topic more hot than most at the moment, and that’s AI.

I am a C++ developer by trade, and my place of employ has just started to roll out Claude licences for those interested, so the topic of AI assisted programming is very much on my mind. I’m not just going to go out there and say “AI bad”. I don’t necessarily think it’s a productive conversation to have. The reality is that we’re going to see more projects that make use of it in some form, and some are likely to warrant attention.

Going forwards, I think it’s important that we highlight when projects we do feature make use of AI, and to what extent if such information is available. My hope is that this will strike a reasonable balance of being able to share projects that might look interesting, and giving people who want to avoid AI related projects a simple indicator.

Obviously not every project is going to be so open with their usage, and we have no intention of starting witch hunts by deep diving code and looking for em dashes in the comments. The aim here is to make whatever public information there is accessible for people reading here, and just make things a touch clearer for the people who are looking for that kind of disclaimer.

With that aside though, I am interested to know what the general consensus is among the user base. Are you open to playing ports assisted by AI if it’s the only port available, or happens to offer something unique? Do you draw the line at vibe coding, or do you avoid any project that has Claude listed as a contributor? We sadly don’t have access to polls on the front page any more, but I will make sure to keep up with any replies as they come in.

The humans that fed the AI training data absolutely knew what they were doing. Every post you demonstrate you don’t even understand the technology you’ve spent all day claiming is amazing. Weird behavior.

We are taking about plagiarism. Integrity is worth defending for the people who have it. You cannot say “some people aren’t nice therefore nobody should be accountable” and be taken seriously.

you traced a drawing is that plagiarism? is that worth defending? honestly this is a tiresome circling argument. we're beating a dead horse to death.

You can’t take a moral high ground while ignoring that aspect of AI use.
That's what I was trying to say a few pages back but that person is absolutely derailed out of their mind because they want to do whatever without any real consequences (which we know exists). AI are not "just tools" and we should please acknowledge this before we can continue any meaningful debate as adults. If you are fine with the consequences of AI use, then great, proceed as you want, but that's what disclosure is for, people will get into what they want if they consent to it. But people can't just get pissed because they want to pretend that their use of AI doesn't impact the world around them. This is not a harmless technology and we all know it. It's time to face it.

If you traced a drawing AND THEN CLAIMED IT WAS YOUR DRAWING then yes that factually would be plagiarism and is absolutely worth fighting. Your points are complete nonsenses

think about what i said tho.

I said humans steal. what does that mean?

I am talking about human nature.

AI is code it is programmed to serve. it believes it is serving humans. it is not designed to care about what it is making. no amount of rules you put in it will make it care it just wants to serve.

humans are evil by default. we are monsters.

we steal, we lie, we cheat, we KILL even.

so, naturally if you think about it. The AI cannot steal.

"THEFT" is a human crime. not a machine crime.

an AI cannot commit theft until we determine whether AI is worthy of a being that we can give human rights too.

Naturally if you ignore all facts about how the technology works you can create whatever meaning you mean. Then if you just shout all dissent into oblivion there will be no one to not reinforce the fiction you’ve created.

You are yourself suffering from either AI psychosis or some other kind of weird paranoid downward spiral.

and so far have not done that yet.

ah yes. I ignore all the facts so therefor I am right all the time. yeah. good thinking.

Yes you clearly have no idea how AI works even though i explained the basics to you pretty plainly. You have no interest in actually understanding anything about it. I think you like having a magic robo servant and would do anything to justify your subservience to it.

so, everyone let this be a lesson to you. anti AI haters are pearl cletchers you cannot reason with them. as I have shown you they do not read your posts or comment any value to what you have to say and if you give them an inch they will take a mile. they will take and take and take

give them the AI disclosure tag if you want but I am warning you they will use that to harass the devs.

You are claiming a moral and intellectual high ground while you yourself define plagiarism then ask if that is a problem. I truly cannot with you any longer.

and i am not claiming the moral high ground. I am simply saying based on my observations humans have shown they do not deserve what they are asking for.

If you take something that isn’t yours and claim that you created that thing then you are acting in an immoral way. If you can’t agree with that then there can be no reasoning with you and frankly
I’m worried for anyone forced to cohabitate with you.

Grok user? It shows.

does fraud happen? be real with me. I am not referring to anything specific so dont get any ideas. just answer the question. DOES. FRAUD. OCCUR? as in at all? in our world? yes or no. its a simple yes or no question.

WOW, already on page 11. Very hot topic.

Unlike AI-generated songs, images, or videos, there’s really no reason to state whether the author made use of AI. Nobody states whether they used Google. You can assume they did, and you’ll be right often enough that it’s almost a safe bet—unless it’s a matter of life or death.

People who work in coding generally don't feel good about AI right now. Large amount of human displacement by AI is coming and it probably is going to hit this industry in the first wave.

People who do coding as a hobby probably have mixed feelings.

I predict that people who use AI will become as common as people who use Google Search, and in time, maybe even surpass it.

Then there are those idiots who know nothing about software who started making apps, making a lot of noise, laughing at everyone, and saying they are now just as good if not better. You would wish there is a label on them and they can be banned out right.

If you use a compiler instead of hand-coding assembly, what does that make you? I suppose that, at one time, you were the evil one in the eyes of the expert hand-coder, whether you laughed in their face or not.

It’s a non sequitur that means nothing. The existence of fraud doesn’t mean that nobody should ever have to be accountable to their peers and to established regulations meant to protect the creators. I will not engage any of your bullshit as you’ve refused to engage the very reasonable descriptions provided to you. At least fucking understand a thing before you decide to make it a pillar of your personality.

so the answer to this question that you cannot maturely answer is yes. thats the answer. fraud does happen. now, if fruad happens. is it reasonable to assume that if the fraudster knows he's committing fraud will do anything by any means necessary to prevent himself from getting caught? well, you don't wanna get caught don't ya right? so, the logical answer is yes. they will no doubt try to do something to keep themselves out of jail. so, with this comparison in mind.

is it reasonable to assume that maybe just maybe that someone out there maybe one small fraction of the population of anti ai haters is crazy enough to send death threads to developers if they disclosed ai usage? the answer is yes. because we are human and we are monsters. we have to accept the evil nature within ourselves.
