CONTEXT: THIS IS A MESSAGE TO GAMERS WITHIN THIS SPACE OR ANYONE WHO ACTUALLY CARES ABOUT THE BENEFIT OF DISCORD VERIFICATION REMOVAL! I AM AWARE THIS PLACE IS gbatemp. Thats because I already reached out and they said they have no plans. but just because they have no plans doesn't mean enough gamer advocacy can change things! so, please consider being helpful and constructive! Nextendo Network is a free, community-run online service that brings multiplayer back for some Switch games (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Smash Ultimate, etc.). It works on both real CFW Switches and their Ryujinx fork, and it doesn’t require a Nintendo account.


The service itself is solid, but there’s gripe I have with it... Discord verification is currently required.


For a free, open-source alternative that many people are using specifically to get away from restrictive official services, forcing Discord feels unnecessary. Pretendo doesn’t require it, and it creates a barrier for players who simply don’t want a Discord account.


If you use Nextendo (or plan to), please consider asking the team to remove or make Discord verification optional. More player feedback increases the chance they’ll reconsider it.

you know you're not helpful either. when you could see that based on wording here I am talking to gamers asking you all to join in in my request. I already went to Nextendo and asked them and got the most disappointing answer. in most situations this usually calls for group support gathering enough people to suggest the same request to them.

Nextendo is vibe-coded turd released under a non-permissive license. Ridiculing them for it is the only way forward I can see.

Discord authentication is all too common when it comes to private servers. I agree it sucks tremendously, but try explaining that to them. If Pretendo (or some of its developers) ever expand into Switch private server development, I'm almost certain they will continue to maintain their own means of authentication, because they demonstrated they know better.

In the meantime, games with LAN mode and local multiplayer/ad-hoc with ldn_mitm sysmodule will keep working without the need to use official or private servers.

Edit: Also note that tagging the other poster comes off as rude if anything, calm your tits if you want to achieve something.

I put people who don't contribute properly to a post on blast because what they said was not helpful I can careless if it is rude. that is just my way. until people learn to change this is what must be done.

about what you said. I am starting to think that we may need more pioneers in this space besides them. Like I think what nextendo has going is great and I did try to explain that too them heck i am even working with exophase to try and get the owner to talk to the people at Nextendo to work together on displaying Nextendo gameplay activity on peoples profiles. as an alternative to displaying Nintendo's gameplay activity.

But yeah something needs to give so, thats why i came here thinking that if my request alone isn't convincing enough to get them to change maybe they will only act if enough people request it. but I am crashing the fuck out man. I fucking hate social media. just trying to exist.

What is the rationale of the team for its inclusion?
What benefit does it bring?
What advantage does it give to users?

Do we have a swears to these questions?

Frankly, I feel that free open source initiatives are becoming almost as gate kept as proprietary ones.

Everyone developing anything always resorts to Discord for "community" and info.

I thought we left that kind of thing behind, but here we are, even when having something free, we make it inaccessible for big parts of said community because of a decision.

you make a great point. I think most people in their right mind would agree a discord verification is useless. and your right that it does give off vibes of these projects coming off as proprietary. second of all to your point and this may seem random but here me out.

if people are using such open source projects to escape things like age verification or escape the "Matrix" which could be anything to anyone for me the matrix is walled gardens and ecosystems.


I am interested in knowing why is it that people are so willing to stay on discord and put up with discords bullshit but its so hard to convince people to move to other spaces? its like you claim to want change but ya'll dont try to get out of your comfort zones to try other things like Kloak and instead you find it easy to come up with reasons not to join them instead. thats what i dont get about people! so, thats the main reason why i am crashing out! too much complacency in these places lack of transparency and people dont want to try new things so, it just makes me feel all the more open about throwing away everything I was once comfortable with to leave it all behind and focus on one thing gatekeeping my own sanity!

I'll tell you why the other discord alternatives dont end up looking as appealing as discord, its because of people! All of these communities right now could easily have all the same mirrored spaces that discord has if people would just do the effort and move there and make it happen. BUT THEY HAVE SHOWN ME THEY DON'T WANT TOO!

I am also gonna be real. I laugh at everyone who thinks and believes and this is for those who did get out of your comfort zones and make the move I am just gonna say this if you left discord for another place. whether its Kloak, Fluxer, team speak who gives a fuck and your reasoning is I fled because of age verification! I got a bridge to sell ya. Age verification is coming FOR EVERYTHING! Its only a matter of when and if and how and who. Because these people dont care about us! its never been about protecting us! its about protecting THEM! so mark my words. if you left discord because of age verification thats a dumb reason to leave. you should be leaving because a platform has better policies and team leaders than discord. that should be what your minds concern is. because age verification is coming for even if the platform claims its impossible to implement it. I am just saying.
