Games you used to love but don't enjoy anymore

I hate $ony so much for not doing anything with the franchise for almost 16 years.. Just think of the possibilities.. always loved 3d collectathon/ platformers (seriously, we need to bring them back) and even more so well made ones like the first Jak..
Hah, I agree, though I have doubts about how a big studio would execute the idea.

I think the industry had been nicely saturated with 3D platformers by the end of the 6th gen. Ape Escape, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, Rayman, Spyro, and a ton of lesser known games, like Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, Tak, Vexx, Scaler, i-Ninja, Haven: Call of the King, and Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. (I would like to throw out a special mention for Kya: Dark Lineage.)

Personally, I'd like a comeback of something akin to the original Jak & Daxter. Not an overflow of collectables like Donkey Kong 64 or GTA: San Andreas, but just enough to feel worth the trouble. A nice, cartoonish vibe would fit nicely too.

World of Warcraft. Played it in my teen/youth years like nothing else. Then from one day to another gave up.
Today? 15 years later? Totally unplayable. It just don't kick anymore. Don't see the fun in this game anymore.

Sure, but here's a different idea: i say they should do what they wanted to do in Jak 3 but couldn't, a Jak and Daxter game not focused on collecting orbs (collectathon gameplay), but melee & gunplay & driving (when traversing from A to B) with RPG elements, and what i mean by that is interacting with NPCs/characters getting missions traversing with vehicles to all sorts of locales/dungeons, and that's where the platforming part comes in, at the end of each dungeon or palace etc there's a boss fight. After completing the mission you go back to get your reward/xp to upgrade your weapons etc. Sounds good, no? Im not against a traditional Jak and Daxter game either, they could do both if they really want to.
Would love to hear your thoughts..

That actually sounds pretty legit, and it follows that Jak II concept of molding 3D platforming with more varied gameplay through a mission-based structure.

It's one of those great genre-mixing ideas that opens up lots of gameplay opportunities.

Any MMO these days - spent 1988-2015 playing mostly them and just can't do it anymore. Time constraints is an issue and also the daily runs (my OCD says that gotta catch 'em all).

Still have time for any good RPG, most of which seems to be Japanese these days, but I'm not picky of the origin, if the game works for me. I need deeper story and don't mind tons of text as a fast reader.
 
I kind of feel like Jak 2 and 3 had more of the juvenile humor. I liked Jak & Daxter relying more on cartoon humor/physical comedy. It really did have a certain Saturday Morning Cartoon feel, and Jak & Daxter was influenced heavily by Super Mario 64. Jak 2, on the other hand, had a bird character named Pe**er, and the script doesn't let you miss that.

I like to rant on how Naughty Dog kind of lost the script between J&D games. Between 1 and 2, they forgot to keep things light, opting to jump on the GTA3 bandwagon. Between 2 and 3, they simply flipped ideas just to keep people guessing
Agree, in fact all our favourite old platformers had juvenile writing, cause they were aimed mainly at kids and teens back then. I think maybe only Ratchet and Clank original trilogy holds up with it's humour, very short dialogues but they've managed to put some subtle humour hints, you can interpret differently as an adult.

While in Jak 2 & 3 writing was not only juvenile but also incredibly out of place, in all that dystopian entourage watching few characters trying to crack a Nickelodeon-level joke was ahemm... awkward at least.
Or reverse, when Jak and other funny looking characters are trying to sound "serious and mature", well the best you could do is laugh to yourself about how silly it is.

Sly was uniquely stylish and true to its simple idea - cartoonish parody on Heist Movies for youngsters - and it was the most dialogue heavy of all similar ones and broken into episodes, which felt like a comic book or a tv series.
Memorable characters and the atmosphere of a retro style breaking into a french vault, oh man hah we need more of that jazz today :D
 
Sonic Advance 2. I wrote a guide long ago on SP Ring locations. But now it's not even fun to figure out the '1 perfect path' in each Act.
 
Oooo this one's EZ pz! Anything freaking "rando team" and "competitive online," aside from some MMOs that aren't grinding chores. My decade gap from gaming overall degraded my old skills and I honestly started doing some of the old gaming shtuff IRL which has the best controls in comparison (racing, shooting, sword wrasslin).

Hell, 4 years ago my running joke was that I got a 2k racing sim setup that came w/ wheels and an engine.

Oh man.....the irony of cartoon back then and before actually being geared more for the tired parental level of humor while gaming was catching up to that par. Same time though, we had Heretic 2 & Heavy Metal FAKK as well.
 
Paper Mario Sticker Star.
It was pretty much the first videogame I'd ever played with any kind of unique and creative art style. The gameplay was also simple enough for me to get into, and the feeling of exploration was within grasp as the branching paths weren't too difficult to figure out
I haven't touched Sticker Star since I was a kid. I probably won't. I'm very very picky when it comes to RPG's
 
Team Fortress 2, used to be a lot of fun but can't get into it anymore. Cheating situation turned me off, and now I just can't find the fun in it

For me its Green Hell and Inscryption. I put so many hours into them and now I dont even like to think playing them. It was just overkill.

Minecraft. I really liked playing on PvP servers in the past, but I really don't like the modern combat system. Now I rarely play with friends on survivial servers or so.

Old arcade era Beat Em' up games. It may be that I was better at playing them as a kid, but nowadays ı just get juggled infinitely, stuck between two thugs.

I played a lot of Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Source back in the days, now I just can't stand them. I'm successfully avoiding any massive multiplayer games for now, they're all filled with cheaters.

Last time, god-knows-how-many-years-ago I wanted to try GTAO again, and upon landing in a lobby saw: aircraft carrier voltron with a Chinese name stomping through the ocean, and then tanks being rained down like napalm.....I uninstalled and moved on with life.

Sorry for the question, but what makes it unplayable for you? I unfortunately feel the same way and don’t really understand it.
