The hantavirus thread

Ok, what should I do?
Fun fact: if any one of us stepped back in time to hundreds of years ago, most would have died. People have a habit of developing resistance to diseases over time. Techncially many of European heritage have ancestors that survived the black plague, that's why diseases are lethal to uncontacted tribes.

But as for us, there is something to be said of reslience. Do some research on why many in some cultures tell their kids to play in the dirt; there's a reason they are highly resistant even to deadly diseases.

My sibling got a disease that nearly killed him as a newborn, and nowadays he almost never misses work; even Covid only made him miss one day and he rapidly recovered.

My family is bedridden from infections that made me slightly tired due to how many diseases my immune system got experience against in schools. The more pathogens a body is exposed to, the more resistance it tends to have vs even new diseases.

It's kind of like martial arts: If I defeated twenty pro boxers, mma fighters, and grapplers, then if a new combat sport came out, my ability to win is much higher than if I avoided sparring at all. The immune system is similar; if it is not pushed over the edge, it gets stronger, akin to weightlifting. No need to worry.

I don't think you are stupid. I also don't think I'm smart. Maybe there is something that leaves me at a disadvantage... Guess I'll have to hope this virus hits hard so I can finally get an answer. 😄

Yes, your ancestors pays in blood. It's evident when the Spaniards came to the new world and huge numbers died of smallpox.

Being exposed to dirt and bacteria strengthens your immune system, nothing weird there.

About your sibling I think stuff like that can go either way, either someone who is sickly as a child turns into Superman, or they stay weak and sickly.

Don't you think we would have done alright though? As time travelers, against viruses that is. Once you have immunity that is forever, and then the virus mutates and on and on it goes... But I do think we all would have a bigger chance of survival than the people of that time, but that is somewhat of a guess and I'm ready to be wrong about it. 🙂

The point is that things that can kill, on occasion, can actually be used to strengthen, depending on how one approaches the situation. If you see every tragedy as a workout, mental or otherwise, survival and recovery skyrocket.

That's how South Korean troops had such a low PTSD rate in the tunnels in the 1960's, where it would typically be the absolute highest.

That is also how "Military/Nurse/Gallows" humor works so well.

Still on it maybe you fear them more than you actually think eh?
Trying to get the last word eh? That's two replies containing nothing. Interesting study of someone who has no answer and tried to direct the conversation to nonsense, my intention was never to banter or to be annoying.

Hope all that news watching and being fearful brings you all those secret benefits you rather keep to yourself. 😂

by the way, is that toad from SMB2? I really liked that game. Toad's best moment in gaming so far perhaps.

Well if you actually read anything I said I mentioned a couple times not to over fear it but keep an open mind about it but hey I'm just trying to get the last reply in over nothing. 🤷

"nothing" <-

there, you got it. now, can we all move on? Can't stand around all day plucking turnips in SMB2, can we?

I have read what you've said. I just don't see what benefit it would have. Say I worry about the hansavirus, what should I do, hoard canned goods and toilet paper?

You're still trying. 😉 That wasn't meant as serious, it's probably lost in text, even with emojis.

I'm not here to try to piss you off. I cannot figure out how worrying about it would have any positive impact on my life. I also can't think back on something that's already happened and figure out how to ease the problem... Spanish flu, how do you solve it? Is it canned goods and toilet paper?

Did my comment make you low after riding in on a high horse?
I don't use a horse, actually. I currently use a car.

But wart here feels bad; looks like he could use an infirmary:

that looks like one nasty virus.

I'm not even pissed you're over reacting lol.

It is! Love how they drew him. For sure, I mean Captain Toad was his own game so maybe it was finally surpassed. I think SMB2 is the cure for the hansavirus btw, not scientifically backed up at the moment, but that's my go-to if I get it. 😂

Ok, that's good... It does seem like you don't have an answer to those benefits though.

Maybe it feels good to have a moderate amount of fear and that you are prepared in your mind for the coming terrible (apocalypse)? Something like that?
