Pokemon Lazarus gets significant v2.0 update based on player feedback alongside Alola Seaglass announcement

Originally launching last year, Pokemon Lazarus is an ambitious ROM hack making use of the Game Boy Color style graphics of the creator's previous hack, Emerald Seaglass, with an entirely new region and story. In the year since launching Lazarus has had a lot of attention and player feedback, with the 2.0 update taking some of this on-board, alongside adding new Mega Evolutions and fixing bugs that existed in the previous release. You can find the announcement video below:

Though largely focusing on the 2.0 update, the end of the video did feature a surprise announcement for Pokemon Alola Seaglass, alongside an image of the titular region in the style of Emerald Seaglass. No release date was provided, but we'll try to keep you posted as more information on the project emerges.

The latest patch can be downloaded from Nemo622's Ko-fi page, with you optionally being able to donate if you want to tip the creator. Along with the patch, extensive documentation is available outlining progression rewards, changes, encounters, and a small assortment of cheat codes.

This is awesome.
Pokemon Lazarus, graphically, is like a version of Pokemon Crystal cranked up to 11!
it looks like a GBC game made for GBA, with the added resolution and processing power of the GBA.
i really enjoyed it, might be my favorite pokemon hack.
The writing is good, too.

This is why I have a love hate relationship with romhacks.

They always get improved, which is great. But you never know the end of it. So I just wait until the final ultimate done complete version is out. But that is often after years. And by then I lost interest and get interested in another romhack.

And so the cycle continues and I hardly play or finish any pokemon romhack.

Yea, GBAtemp, not GBtemp or GBCtemp, we have some standards, here...
And going back on topic...
I actually really love the "Hi-RES" GBC style used here. It's similar to how the makers of Shovel Knight approach their game styles, with purposely old fashioned graphics and restrictions in a newer engine.

It really hits the old nostalgia bones and as someone who was deeply and emotionally affected by the original gen 3 dexit, trade ban and art style change (not that the games don't look great), I really welcomed this approach.

The way I deal with Romhacks is a keep a list of those I'm interested in. And by the time I can be bothered to search for them, download them, patch them and move them onto the SD Card of the relevant device, they're usually at least more thoroughly QA tested, if not necessarily finished. So far, I haven't run into the issue of them disappearing. I mean, if you can still find Pokemon Brown many decades later, I'm not too worried about the more popular hacks.

This seems pretty cool. Does it work on real hardware?
I don't think I've come across a GBA Pokemon hack that doesn't. I'd check for you but I've no clue where I put my EverDrive.

I remember a couple not working, not sure if they were Pokemon or something else tbh.

Maybe I'll try it on the R36S tonight or so, can't really emember where my GBA flashcart is since I haven't used it in a while.

And you, did you forget about the existence of thread prefixes?
I will just mention that was added when I posted my last reply around 40 minutes ago and wasn't there when you or the other person originally replied.

Either way, if you're not interested in Pokemon hacks then just don't reply to them lol

I've actually preferred emulating Pokémon Romhacks as it's not exactly a series requiring precise inputs and the RTC, which is generally used more by hacks than the original games, can be difficult.

For example, I gave up using my Analogue Pocket because unless I overlooked it, RTC isn't supported by their cores (and probably not on Mister either). The standard seems to be that cartridge specific hardware is always emulated for SNES but not GB(A).

Only the more expensive flashcarts and flashable ROM have the RTC circuit built in. It probably works fine on 3DS but I find the combination of outdated network access and, on the New models, blocked SD card slots a little prohibitive (and do you launch it from an extra menu or install it properly on your home page). But emulated it on Linux and either throwing the ROM over the network or on an SD Card is fairly painless, especially if you're already a Linux user. And RTC features etc. need no special configuration.

i never played any romhacks... i hate when its so much boring dialogues and no creative Level/World/game design.
Thats why i only like the first two gens. No Big Storys. Here is your pokemon and explore the world...

is there any Romhack with no big Story lines and more intelligent World Design and Quest Design ??
Please, i want finally find a good rom hack
