This "Trailer" serves as a way to showcase the new textures vs the vanilla (side by side comparison at 1:19)

This is one of my favorite childhood games and since I couldn't find a Texture pack to play it with slightly better Graphics decided to try to make my own first texture pack, all textures are DDS file format as I've seen android devices and the steam deck run it better than standard PNGs
Hope you enjoy them as much as I do

I've created 3 versions:
6xUPSCALE with EXTRA DETAIL - this is the one I prefer and enjoy the most, almost makes it look modern, it has extra detail added with generative AI models, this is also the ones used in the "Trailer"
ONLY 6x UPSCALE - this is just a upscale with minor corrections but keeping fidelity with the original game textures
4x UPSCALE Anime Textures - this one actually looks quite nice changing a bit the original graphics but gives it a more cartoon look using a smaller upscaling model

Folder Link with three versions

This video shows a short video of each texture

I also uploaded the Texture Dump from PCSX2 if anyone wants to try to make their own textures.

PCSX2 TEXTURE PACK INSTALLATION GUIDE
===========================================

This guide explains how to properly install a Texture Pack for
PCSX2 using the Texture Replacement system.

NOTE:
The folder "SLUS-21372" corresponds to:
The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning (PS2)

-------------------------------------------
1) Recommended Default PCSX2 User Folder
-------------------------------------------

PCSX2 stores its user files in one of two locations:

A) **Installer Version (Recommended)**
C:\Users\<YourUserName>\Documents\PCSX2

To open this automatically:
- Press WIN + R
- Paste this command:
%UserProfile%\Documents\PCSX2
- Press ENTER

B) **Portable ZIP Version**
The PCSX2 folder is inside the same directory where you extracted it:
PCSX2\portable\user\documents\PCSX2

-------------------------------------------
2) Installing the Texture Pack
-------------------------------------------

1. Download your preferred Texture Pack.

2. Move the downloaded .zip file into your PCSX2 user folder
(see the section above for the correct location).

3. Inside the PCSX2 folder, open or create a folder named:
textures

4. Place the .zip file inside the "textures" folder and extract it there.

5. After extraction, you MUST see a folder named:
SLUS-21372
This is the Game ID folder for "The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning".

If you instead see a folder named after the zip file (for example:
Spyro_Texture_Pack_V1
then open that folder and move the internal "SLUS-21372" folder
directly into the "textures" folder.

Correct final structure:
PCSX2\textures\SLUS-21372\

6. Once this folder is in the correct place, the texture pack is installed.

-------------------------------------------
3) Enabling Texture Loading in PCSX2
-------------------------------------------

1. Open PCSX2.
2. Right-click on your game.
3. Click "Properties".
4. In the left column, go to:
Graphics → Texture Replacement
5. Enable the checkbox:
[✔] Load Textures

Optional performance settings:
- Asynchronous Texture Loading (default, recommended for most users)
- Precache Textures (better if you have plenty of RAM and a small/medium texture pack)

-------------------------------------------
The texture pack should now load automatically when you start the game!

There are some texture errors. Notice how both sides of the logo and pause menu don't match.

It seems that since each half is split into two separate textures, rescaling them individually resulted in slight inconsistencies, causing that visible difference between the two sides. I suppose the only way to fix it would be to rescale them again while trying to ensure they match perfectly. If you're interested, I could give it a try.

Okay, I’ve checked both and can share a few details. First, regarding the pause menu background texture: unfortunately, it’s difficult to fix because the native texture already has that split, so it would need to be retouched manually. I have good news about the logo, though: the quickest solution is to download the "x4 anime textures" version, as it includes a logo that’s a closer match—though it still has the split, since, just like the other one, it originates from the native version.

I've actually addressed this directly via DMs with Hardback247

"To solve the issue for now I recommend deleting from the replacements folder 5ba96136de7a40a-96734bee6f6450c0-00002254.dds (letters), b72675eb237487ca-f12cd9bd26121a47-00002213.dds (main menu right side), 65a39cb18ccc052e-f12cd9bd26121a47-00002213.dds (main menu left side), that way it will use the original game textures, otherwise feel free to get these exact files from the 4x anime or 6x normal upscale (without extra detail) packs and they will probably fit better."

And this approach is probably better for most people that are disturbed by the game menu or the subtitles bad upscaling (they need manual correction)

No worries, it doesn't bother me personally; I was just trying to help, Hardback247. Anyway, from what I've seen, the problem comes from the original texture, since it already has the separation, and the rescaling only makes it more noticeable.

One thing: I play on the PAL version SLES-54359, and I've tried to fix some issues that were present in this version (mainly in the interface). If you'd mind, I could post my solutions here as an addition to the pack you have.

Sure no trouble. Posts here are supposed to be a community contribution after all. Did not known the textures were reusable across regional versions tho.

Okay, thank you very much. I can confirm that most textures share the same name in both regions; they only change when it's a logo or some parts of the interface. For example, the UI Buttons don't work in this one, and the alphabet doesn't work in Spyro: The Eternal Night because they have slight changes that cause them to have different names, and so on.

English Version 🇬🇧 / 🇺🇸

Hey everyone!

The texture pack seems to work pretty well on the PAL version (SLES-54359), although there are a few minor details that vary due to the language and region differences. Here are a couple of tweaks I did right after starting the game:

  • UI Buttons: Right off the bat, I noticed the UI buttons weren't upscaled. The workaround I found was to simply use the UI button file included in The Eternal Night texture pack (it works perfectly).
  • Title Screen Logo: The logo was only upscaled for the English version. I took the liberty of upscaling the Spanish logo myself. If anyone needs the logo in another language, just ask and I'll gladly do it for you!
These are just the things I noticed right at the start. If I find more bugs in the future and figure out how to fix them, I'll update this post.

I want to make it absolutely clear that I have no intention of stealing anyone's work. Huge shoutout and thanks to DurinDragon for the incredible effort they put into this, allowing us to play both A New Beginning and The Eternal Night looking so gorgeous. My only goal here is to help out the community and use this as practice to learn more about upscaling.

I'll attach the files I mentioned below for your convenience.

P.S.: I want to point out a performance issue I encountered at the very beginning of A New Beginning when using the x6 packs. Running it at 50/60Hz absolutely chokes my GPU for some reason (I have an RTX 4070 Super, which is wild). I'm not sure if this is an issue exclusive to the PAL version or not, but just a heads-up!
