IMO it really boils down to if they're pretending to be stupid or not.

If they're pretending to be stupid then well, congratulations. I have been fooled to believe this is the case due to the amount of time and effort to come off this way. And that makes them look sad.

If there's no pretending well, that's unfortunate I guess.

Neither outcome makes em look particularly great.
