The infamous CD-i title "Zelda's Adventure" is getting a fanmade remaster

Back in the 90's, Nintendo and Sony made an agreement to work on a CD-like console, with the prototype for this collaboration being a Super Nintendo with CD capabilities, with said prototype being found some years ago. However, that collaboration between Nintendo and Sony fell through, as Nintendo ended up partnering with Phillips, leaving Sony aside, and eventually, leading to Sony creating their own console, which eventually became the very first Sony PlayStation, and a major rival to Nintendo in the gaming market.

Out of that partnership between Nintendo and Phillips, came several Nintendo licensed video games for the exclusive Phillips console at the time, the CD-i, with some of the most well-known characters from Nintendo appearing in the CD-i with games like Hotel Mario, Zelda: Wand of Gamelon and Link: Faces of Evil, with the later two titles focused on the Zelda franchise getting fanmade remasters a few years ago. However, there was still another Zelda title released for the CD-i that completed the Unholy Triforce for the console, with that being Zelda's Adventure, which sadly didn't get a remaster like the other two titles on the CD-i... Until today.

Thanks to the efforts of developer JappaWakka, Zelda's Adventure is now getting a fanmade remaster to coexist alongside its unholy brethren, with the remaster now having a demo available for users to enjoy and test on their devices, with the latest demo version being v0.0.6. The remaster includes the following features:
  • Remastered Mode, which includes several Quality of Life features and restored cut content.
  • Classic Mode that plays similar to the original release
  • Smooth 60fps gameplay
  • Subtitles for cutscenes and ingame dialogue
  • Rebindable controls
  • Better looped ambience sound/music
  • Stereo panned sound effects
  • Localization options (currently only English and Dutch are available).
Those interested in trying out this remaster for the obscure CD-i title, can do so by visiting JappaWakka's Itch.io website, or by compiling the source code for the game with GameMake Studio LTS 2022 from JappaWakka's GitHub repository.

Potato, potahto.

I'd rather add 60fps to TP than polish this turd.
No matter how much you polish a turd its a turd...it can be shiny turd, but a turd.
TP is not a turd to begin with.

Only good thing i see is preservation as a piece of history. Thats nice i love THAT.
Dude... remaster is not polish, not a port, not a remake, it's a remaster.
If they bring TP to PC, as a nearly 1:1 from Gamecube (minus controls), that's a port.
If they make TP based on the decompilation, but with better models, new quest, new features (like hard/master mode, skins) that's a remake.
If they make TP from scratch, with better engines, add features they want to make it unique, that's a remaster.

This is so stupid. WHy would anyone port this. Why not port Twilight princess ionstead.
It's actually not a port, it's made from scratch in GameMaker iirc.
So it's even more impressive.
Twilight Princess already has its decompilation done, so it's only a matter of weeks/months before we see its PC port being done.

Point being its playable on other system thats not original, but you can call it however you wish.

But A+ for effort in explaining, it would be usefull to people who are interested in difference.
I myself know the difference but thats not important for this particulat point that i had, but thanks.
I said "port is nearly 1:1 (minus control)" because there are some cases where it's not totally 1:1 but it would still be considered as a port.
An example that comes to mind, is when they ported Skyrim to the Switch (or was it Wii U) and they added some Nintendo exclusive content (hyrule shield, master sword, link tunic, etc). While a port is indeed to bring a game on a plateform that was not intended to receive the game at first, it usually is a 1:1 port, minus controls.

EDIT : My bad, I misread your comment about the definition of port.

Why would you complete a game if its crap?
(Just a rethorical question, not an actual question).
Cuz I wanted to feel like Joueur du Grenier (basically french AVGN)

Honestly, I wasn't even planning on finishing them, they were just so short I finished Faces of Evil and said "might as well finish the other one"

Be out already! I want my 60FPS TP!:gba:
I actually have nothing against any stupid port, im just sad i dont see games that i like ported in glorious 60fps...

The decomp is open source and I think there's a porting project in place so feel free to join that team

Nice work JappaWakka. Keep at it.
Polishing a turd may be a thankless endeavour, but sometimes it's important.

You dint need to make it as if i have something personal against their efforts, i was just comenting the game and how theres no point in my opinion.
Doesn't claiming there's no point to something imply a disdain, or at least indifference to someone's efforts? It certainly shows a lack of support

Urgh... I wasn't even intentionally referencing what you said and you took it personally.

If you feel bad about what you said, it's okay to just apologise. Maybe think about what you're posting before pressing the button.

I literally just wanted to congratulate the creator for doing something that's quite impressive, mostly thankless but super important.
