BootROM keys for the PlayStation 5 have leaked online

A surprise to ring in the New Year was the discovery of what could potentially help lead to developments in the PlayStation 5 hacking scene. Internal files from Sony have leaked onto the internet, which includes "Level 0 BootROM keys" for the PS5. These keys are instrumental in understanding how the PlayStation 5 operates, and could also be used to decrypt the PS5's bootloader. As it stands, since they exist on a hardware level, there's nothing Sony can do to patch away the vulnerability of the keys being readily available online. However, while useful to have, PlayStation scene member Jose Coixao stressed that this by no means guarantees an easy hack for the PS5, since there's still plenty of other work involved in being able to exploit a console. Time will tell if those within the scene can make any headway with the discovery of these keys.

Considering I already paid legally for every Sony Exclusive, this wouldn't benefit me much!
But if it's like the PS3 hack, where you can still be online with it!
Then it may solve my issue with a few 3rd party games, and no more PlayStation Plus, which I already don't subscribe to anymore.

It’s not like that. These keys are useless on their own atm

I suspect that Sony will scramble to change the keys so all PS5 units produced a few months from now will have new keys limiting hacks to people who own a PS5 with the old keys. Not sure if the PS5 will be worth owning after the Steam Machine comes out.
Limiting it to 85 million consoles, what a limit huh? This might allow something like Bazzite on the ps5 at some point, which would make my ps5 a direct competitor to the Steam Machine....

Does this mean that we will see hacks for every existing model?
All PS5s can run the exploits.

Its the installed firmware that is the thing you need to keep an eye for.

Soon a 12.0 exploit will be out using retail copy of StarWars Racer Revenge.

At the moment the highest firmware to run exploit is 10.1

Its pretty much like that now, etaHen supported and cheats, Homebrew Launcher to boot your games off the HomeScreen.

It's currently a dirty kernel patch method, which is what kstuff is and the ripped file format that Itemzflow uses is another messy way that is unoptimized and not what the system expects. It needs to be on par to how the PS4 JB is (not saying that is perfect either) but in terms of reliability, it's much better than the current method the PS5 is at now.

Its a completely different system, however you can get shit done similar to how you'd use your ps4, copy game to USB, jb, add game tile to home screen.

I don't get your bitchin?

How is it bitchin, It's just my opinion and experience with current PS5 method with etaHEN and Kstuff, as I don't like it.

You don't like a clean simple exploit to play games you don't buy..... And you moan about it not being like PS4, the completely different systems, they've made it so its pretty much identical.

Your point of fpkg is irrelevant as its game dumps, zero installation required.

Simply drag/drop

Use Homebrew Loader to add tile to home screen.

As if it were an installed fpkg.

And your not happy.... I mean your welcome to do it better yourself, or just stop moaning and be grateful that these guys are giving it to you and for free.

From what I understand Steam Machine wont even be as powerful as a base PS5 but will cost more. Perhaps I'm wrong.

Now I could be wrong here, but doesn't using information like this jeopardize the legality of any homebrew solution / bypass leveraging off this information? Considering this stuff isn't supposed to be released publicly.

Of course this won't stop people trying to make a buck by providing piracy solution.

I would imagine a lot more is necessary to make this happen, keys only do so much. Just doesn't seem right to be to be dipping toes into something I don't think is legally usable, and formulating a homebrew foundation out of it. It takes away from clever ideas, methods, clean room efforts overall, that people try to exploit these platforms. I always find it messed up when people cheat in these cases to get to the top. Sure, it's a pain in the ass to reverse engineer these things without materials to work with, but that's part of the glory of homebrew, and the job description of programming in many instances. Real achievements aren't something you cheat.
