I've never played or heard any music from Megaman 2, if I'm gonna be honest.
I might have to check it out :3
Oh man, Mega Man music is quintessential NES music. I have a strong affinity for Mega Man 3's soundtrack, since it has a great jazzy quality. They all help define that NES sound, showing what the hardware was capable of (despite the technical limitations). I consider 2, 3, and 5 to have the best soundtracks, but I tend to go to bat for all six of them.

Outside the NES, Panzer Dragoon Saga has some really serene tracks that are worth checking out. I do appreciate Grandia II's and Eternal Sonata's OST's, especially the battle themes. You can never go wrong with any of Nobuo Uematsu's work throughout the Final Fantasy series (1 through 12). The Super Nintendo is loaded with great works from Squaresoft alone, from Secret of Mana to Super Mario RPG to Chrono Trigger. Xenogears is another unique soundtrack that deserves a mention.

To do right by my avatar's Custom Title, I'll throw in the Bubble Bobble theme, but I bet the NES version's rendition sounds like nails on a chalkboard to the uninitiated.

Oooh, I forgot a good one.

Gimmick! on the Famicom has an excellent soundtrack. Sunsoft games are known for having really solid OST's, and Gimmick!'s jazz fusion is no exception.

Since I had to go and mention Sunsoft, I'd like to add honorable mentions for two other NES classics: Journey to Silius and Batman.

Every time I read a new comment in this thread I hear about games I have never heard before lmao

I’ll try to check them out :3

That's very a good one, i'm sound autistic.
Music is a big part in my live, one off few things that can touch my soul. In some way I love music more then having sex.
Sound and music also helps me to remember things from the past,

Those are a few off my all time favorites:

Now i cant say i have a de-facto favorite song/music since i like a lot of them, but the MegaCD version of After Burner is one of my favorites.

Also Sonic Adventure Open your Heart comes to mind.
Oh that Sonic one is also very good one.
I do also love the intro song from Road Avenger on the MegaCD.
That US cover art look so bad compare with the Jap/Pal version.

This also a nice one, one off my first RPG's. Played and finshed alot back in the day.
Fun detail one of the fist games that got a fan translation, from a Dutch translation group Oasis.
I'm proud off my Dutch orgins ;)

For me, it's just about the whole soundtrack of unreal. Skyward fire, bluff eversmoking, the temple theme... For the time the graphics were enough to make the impression that you're crossing a strange planet, but the atmospheric music was-to me- unheard of art that time.

Close on second place: red alert 2's hell march.
