Microsoft updates Xbox PC App for Windows to integrate third party launchers like Steam

After a few weeks of testing, Microsoft is releasing a new update for its Xbox PC App for Windows. This new build focuses on combining your games in one place by allowing users to add games from third-party launchers to your library. The update is being referred to as the "Xbox Full Screen Experience", and is centered around the upcoming Xbox Ally due out next month. A further update is due out later this month, which will add the ability to quickly resume your cloud-play games between Xbox, handheld, and PC.

Games installed from supported PC storefronts will automatically appear in My Library and in the Most Recent section of the Xbox PC app.

Prefer a more simplified view?
  • Select your profile picture
  • Head to Settings
  • Go to Library & Extensions
  • Find the storefronts listed
  • Toggle any listings you’d prefer not to see
Once disabled, those titles will no longer appear in your library, giving you full control over how your library looks and feels.

When they say “full control” do they mean customization, like tweaks, themes, and so on, or just games you see?

About third-party launchers are very lousy and sucks! Remember Steam did kill support off on Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8. Microsoft can go to h*ll. Microsoft is anti- consumers. That's why I never trust Windows Store already built-in Windows 10, 11 and later. I always prefer to stick with .exe setup only forever like old school. I know Microsoft will pull plug to kill Windows Store on Windows 10 in few years. Remember Microsoft already kill Windows Store on Windows 8 / 8.x few years ago. Microsoft is worst ever! Microsoft quality will go down faster then become useless. Microsoft sucks period! 👎👎 and 🖕🖕 to Microsoft. Everyone will be done with Microsoft then move to Linux for gaming. Bye bye Microsoft to rot in h*ll!

do people actually use this app?

Back when I had gamepass I did and it was annoying....even more so than other launchers thanks to how handles game data.

I had to mess around with folder permissions to delete old data on a different drive after reinstalling windows and then had to mess around to get the app working again.

It's like they're trying to be the Denuvo of game launchers.

So what you're saying is that you caused the problem by messing around with permissions. lol

Your Windows fear mongering is absolutely ridiculous. The majority of things I've seen you say about Windows aren't even true.

Why wouldn't I just use the Steam app itself. This is so dumb.
To improve usability and UX, having a convergent UI language is important for the average user, and convenient for most people.

A lot of launchers have this feature for this exact reason, including Steam itself.

Flop probably not. People will recognize the xbox logo more over steam that's not really sold in stores physically. Let's be real still tons of Microsoft xbox fan boys out there.
The vita flopped and it was a real handheld

This is an unoptimized handheld PC running basically stock windows 11 - this thing will be atrocious and hardly anything the common gamer will want to purchase

The rog ally it's self did recently well against the SteamDeck. Still alot of Gamers that focus on thr big 3 and not platforms like steam. Though unlikely if you know about steam you know about portable handhelds. I think it'll just do okay much like the rog ally did.
