"Return to Silent Hill" movie gets an official teaser trailer

The film adaptation of the beloved horror gaming classic, Silent Hill 2, has just received a brand new teaser trailer yesterday.

On August 26th, 2025, official media outlets like Bloody Disgusting, Fangoria and IGN unveiled the official teaser trailer for the upcoming new movie based on the events of Silent Hill 2, titled "Return to Silent Hill".

Trailer description said:
Return to Silent Hill brings the iconic horror franchise back to the screen. When James receives a mysterious letter from his lost love Mary, he is drawn to Silent Hill—a once-familiar town now consumed by darkness. As he searches for her, James faces monstrous creatures and unravels a terrifying truth that will push him to the edge of his sanity.

The trailer gives a brief glimpse into the imagery, set pieces, as well as monsters and creatures of the film, including the arguably most popular and renowned monster from the franchise, with the trailer giving us our first official look at Pyramid Head in the movie, alongside its signature giant knife.

The film is being directed by Christophe Gans, the same director from the original 2006 "Silent Hill" film starring Radha Mitchell as Rose Da Silva, and "Return to Silent Hill" is omitting "Silent Hill: Revelations" and its events, since Christopher Gans wasn't involved in the production of Revelations, and instead, Gans is treating this movie as an indirect sequel to the original Silent Hill from 2006.

"Return to Silent Hill" is just a few months away, with the film being set to release on theaters on January 23rd, 2026.

The thing about Silent Hill 2 was that, for its time, it was unique among horror and story-based action-adventure games. Against the entire history of horror cinema, I'm not sure Silent Hill 2 would strike many chords. I'm interested to see the final product, but I'm sure I'll find it difficult to separate the OG PS2 experience from the Hollywood version.

Also, I like my excessively snide reaction to the movie from a previous thread:
I'm confused. I took a quick look at imdb, and Sean Bean isn't listed. (Image below is all I could fit on the screen. Full credits list here.)

Also, holy cow, Silent Hill is buzzing with humans today.

They got friggin' Dara, Claudette, Mitzy, both Meyers twins, and even Cal's here. Man, this movie is lookin' source-accurate.
I'm sorry for subjecting everyone to my odd sense of humor.

I didnt mind the first run of films, but Konami to remake SH2 game and movie so close to each other.

Cash cow.

Not surprised.

Just disappointed.

Of course. They're desperate to become relevant again.

Same with the MGS 3 remake; while both that and the SH2 remake are the best things they've made in years, they're just spinning the same wheels after firing/driving off all their talent. Seems to be systematic with modern studios these days.

Also the first two films were... pretty awful. Full of obvious CGI and trying to kitbash the plots for the original trilogy together to middling success.

At least they weren't written/produced/directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. That's about the nicest thing I can say about them. :rofl2:

I wouldn't mind a relevant Konami again, even if the industry is a changed place.

I'd be curious to know what Konami's long-term goals are. They can only ride the remake train for so long. They called it quits in the 7th gen, which doesn't leave a large library of 3D games to remake. I'm sure Metal Gear Solid is next in the pipeline, since Silent Hill 1 has already been announced.

I was hoping they'd port more Suikoden games, but there's still no sign of III, IV, V, or Woven Web of a Century making their way to new platforms.

Are any of the two films released worth watching?
For cheese value, absolutely. Its been ages since I watched the first one, but I can still remember some of the more ridiculous scenes. If you can get a friend or two to watch, even better, because of course the more the merrier.

I wouldn't watch them seriously as a fan, though. It'll probably annoy you, at best.

To my knowledge they were banking on their pachinko revenues keeping them afloat once Kojima left and they retreated from the video game scene, but then the Human Malware happened, and that kinda got kicked in the teeth because no gamblers = no revenue for even just a short while. And with most of those playing them being of the elderly persuasion (I don't know if younger people also play but I would guess less-so), their market was already on a ticking timer.

They're also coming out with a new Silent Hill game, but it appears to be much more Japanese horror oriented than the series has been up until now. Tentatively interested, but I won't be buying new or pre-ordering anymore from them. They also remastered some of the Castlevania games a few years ago, but that's all it was - remasters. There hasn't been a proper one since the DS died - just 3D facsimiles in the Lord of Shadows games.

The only thing I remember about the pachinko era was the MGS machine. Those Snake Eater cutscenes looked next-gen.

I appreciate the reminder that Silent Hill f exists. With everything I have going on, I keep forgetting. Here's hoping it pulls in enough sales to keep Konami going. Otherwise, they'll slink back to the compilations/ports stage.

Its been their bread-and-butter since before they started making video games from what I've read/heard. And yeah, I wonder if they had a next-gen MGS3 remaster in the wing before the kerfuffle with Kojima caused them to axe it. And then apparently revive it... This is all guesswork, though, so don't take it at face-value.

I don't foresee them going out anytime soon. I'm sure they'll find some way to get by, but at this point I am dubious about their ability to create anything with new ideas. Like many old Japanese companies, they seem very rooted in what they know, and they know gambling machines and porting their golden years to new consoles.

The 7th gen was more remaster territory. The rising cost of game development led to several compilations of 6th gen games. Konami did release the Bluepoint-developed ports of MGS2, MGS3, and Peace Walker during that time, so a remake would have been redundant. Plus, MGS4 and MGS5 were on the horizon. If I had to guess, I'd say those scenes were made just for the pachinko machines. They looked amazing for the time, though.

I agree, I'm not sure what kind of creative talent Konami currently has. Kojima was the last big name attached to the company, but I don't associate anyone in particular with Konami now. Koji Igarashi went on to Bloodstained, Yoshitaka Murayama went on to Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes (he has since passed), etc.

Most people seemed to hate the first movie adaptation of Silent Hill, but I liked it. I hated the second one, though. This one looks like I'll probably like it well enough, but it's obviously a loose adaptation of Silent Hill 2 and I will be watching it with that in mind.

Good lord some of you are so damn miserable. As a huge fan of the franchise, the first move was great and this one looks just as good. The second movie was the turd.

Sorry if this supposed to be a genuine silent hill movie or just a cgi fest cause that’s how it looks the special effects look really unreal

I hope the afterlife is a real life Silent Hill. Might be nice to feel something, even if it's endless sheer terror.
