We have switched to a new ad network. Please use this thread to report any browsing issues specifically caused by ads on GBAtemp.

Most ads include a "Report Ad" button so please use it to report any issues with ad content. There's no need to post about it on the forums, as we'll just direct you to that button.

Also, please keep in mind that these ads arent there just for the fun of it. We need revenue to keep servers going, to allow some staff to get (small) payments to keep the site alive, and giveaways, contests etc.

I like the articles written by "staff" but you're right, I'm here for the forums, and I think those articles can be written by cheaper contractors instead (harsh reality, I know)

same as how the developers can be replaced by cheaper contractors, and how the site and its infrastructure and features could be improved by said developers

no mention of cost cutting measures was in the article of discussion which kind of rubs me the wrong way, but unfortunately my opinion doesn't matter according to this guy
I will say very few of the writers/staff on the site are paid. I’d be very surprised if you could get folks cheaper than free lol

Not allowing comments on sponsored content is bad taste. Either fully believe in it or not.
I agree with you, some may be legitimately interesting and comments should be encouraged.

Being a sponsor does not always imply the product is a scam or a cheap knockoff, and that would even boost the engagement to it.

I think there should be more trasparency about how much money is needed to keep the lights on.

You use Xenforo (as we can see from the bottom of the page) and they offer a 60-100$ offers based on webviews (400k vs 1million); and at least to me, it looks like it include everything you need except the domain (tbh I have no idea how much you pay for it yearly)

With 81 patron, the cash inflow is about 150$/month (with around 3% transaction fees)

Are there more expenses that are unaccounted for?

Every goddamn site, and its almost impossible to close the video pop-up without clicking everything behind.

I'm done with this site.
Time to move on.

Time to focus on facebook groups yall. I spent a lit of time here and have dropped a ton of breadcrumbs for people to land here if they are looking to learn rom hacking (specifically with tools for chrono trigger ds) and have helpped a few people as a result of those breadcrumbs.

Tiny video popups are the nail in the coffin for me. I hope nobody ends up on this site with this garbage of a navigating experience anymore.

Oh no guys, you've done it... You've made users ditch the site altogether.
Enjoy loosing two... three?... maybe 5 members out of 649763 because the site is trying to survive like everything else.

I help run another popular forum. A site with 1million members (not all active obviously) and 15 years of content from said members costs about $1000 /year

Tried doing it for less, and the site would constantly go down from the traffic

Patron of GBAtemp I have become. I've never had ad on gbatemp, I just whitelisted it on adblockers but still no ads. I use firefox on strict privacy settings, maybe thats why I dont see ads?
ads bugged me so much I started using Adguard dns

Anyone know how many people visit this site daily? Just curious

How about we get people to pay to work here?

Bosh, I've solved the economy.

Being serious, I would prefer to know how much the site needs to keep running and as a community, we may need to start getting in the habit of doing fundraisers every year. Very much, easy to say but as someone whose been on this site since 2009, I am attached to this place and am happy to put moneyz in.

Huh well I am a patron so... I guess your solution is already in action lol

Not really, I'm thinking we be open about the finances needed for the next 12 months and have a dedicated event or events to fundraise i.e. streams and whatnot. Admittedly no guarantee but at least an idea particularly as video is pretty much king apparently.

Oh no I do agree that would be a decent idea, I was more talking about your "get people to pay to write here" statement lol

How much in donation would be needed to keep the site running without ads? For registered members, at least?

Maybe an experiment could be done, if a public monthly goal is achieved then the site can go one month without ads.

My words may be a little bold since I don't actively use this site anymore, but that's the best solution I could think of. I were still active I'd feel much more inclined to donate if it was for the sake of keeping ads out for everyone.

At this point I'm having trouble turning off my adblocker. I've had too many sites drop full-page ads in my face, and its overstimulating to an insane degree for things I either have no interest in or cannot afford - often both. Nevermind the trackers on websites being out of control. So, sorry, but I'll be leaving my malware-filtering add-ons active wherever I go.

If only ads could exist without taking up the top, bottom, sides, in-between posts, pop-ups, desktop-pop-ups, video-desktop-pop-ups, interactive-video-desktop-pop-ups, and a partridge in a pear tree...
