A new Nintendo Switch firmware update is available to download. System software version 20.3.0 has been pushed out to systems and adds the general stability we've grown accustomed to. The finer details within the update are noted on Switchbrew, which includes changes to SystemData and Applets.

Ver. 20.3.0 (Released July 28, 2025)

General system stability improvements to enhance the user's experience.

They kinda did that with the 3DS when the Switch 1 originally came out. Pretty sure they'll drop support for it in a few more years.
This isn't a 3DS -> Switch situation, this is a 3DS -> New 3DS situation.

Switch shares the same HorizonOS with Switch 2 like the 3DS shared the firmware with New 3DS, so Nintendo isn't going to discontinue Switch 1 updates without also discontinuing Switch 2 updates.

allegedly there's an unofficial atmosphere build floating around that supports it, meanwhile sciresm doesn't have an issue on the github yet or has talked about this version on Twitter.

It looks like only need a quick fix, rather than wait for 1-2 weeks that is for reverse engineer.

I hate Mario Kart World and I refuse to buy or play that game.

I did played MK8D for abit to mod it for someone for $300
I played Mario Kart World and I can tell that is decent game but free roam mode is kinda mediocre.

It is kinda like you are playing Mario Kart on PS4.

He indeed have a issue open and stated is working on a new version. Ans asking people to stop harassing for the new version. People trend to be rude!

could u let me know when they do
Literally same I accidentally updated to 20.3 while in sysmmc now I can't boot back into it my emmummc is on 20.2 still but i half ass installed it with no games or dlc on the SD card so It's pretty much useless to me and don't want to reflash everything the whole virtual card system is dumb and downgrading will just brick the switch so someone let me know when atmos is updated

I tried updating using daybreak. Got "failed to setup update".

Not sure if this is an issue with this firmware not playing nice with Daybreak or something else. I have updated consistently using Daybreak for awhile now.

EDIT: And apparently I was just doing it wrong. Recopied all relevant files to SD and it worked.

The switch has already had more updates than every other Nintendo system, and the funny thing is it has the least to show for it

The switch updates have never really improved any experience on the system

How did the thing retire and we never even got themes
Truth be told, the system was also practically busted wide open from the flaw in day-1 systems, leading to a constant cat and mouse situation.

As for themes, it may have been something planned, but never really pushed, much like many things in past systems, like the port on the bottom of NES systems. It's not hardware-based, but maybe having them would have pushed too much attention to that than the slickness and quickness of the system (outside of eShop and whatnot).

Maybe there is already some exploit for the Switch (not published) and someone just reported it to Nintendo to get some $$$ and they have patched it using this firmeware update, why else so many updates in a short time?

If it is in case, SciresM would know immediately if exploit lead Switch 2 to be hacked and he did a lot of tests with Switch 1 to find any exploits.

I do think that has with bugs or stability issues on Switch 2, so they often don't lead to breakthrough and exploit would need to be more deeper to be discoverable and enable the hacking.

He could, you know, restrict those discussions to be read only to everyone except contributors.
he does indeed, even ban rude people. I was banned some time because I answered a thread of those, the irony is: my answer was «please do not open this type of thread.»

Damn, with all this stability, I'm sure Nintendo has a collider and is about to break the cold fusion problem.

The more they are figuring out how to prevent Switch 2 from jailbreaking, they are updating Switch 1's to brick all the CFW models. It's very obvious what they are doing.
and what are you basing that on considering they are all possible to mod and your statement is false? seriously! where do you get this crap?

that's just not a thing. nintendo doesnt do anything to block atmosphere from working in new firmware versions. it's atmosphere intentionally preventing itself from running when it detects a potentially unsupported firmware version just in case the atmosphere patches happen to be incompatible

0.0.X firmware version updates are allowed because those are never breaking changes, anything 0.X.0 or X.0.0 atmosphere will halt if the firmware version isn't explicitly supported. 20.2.0 and 20.3.0 only needed to be marked as supported by atmosphere to work, the code for atmosphere 1.9.1 works perfectly fine on 20.2.0 and 20.3.0 otherwise

in every other case there are changes to the os that are incompatible and the cfw needs to be updated to fix it, this is exactly why cfw checks the os version and halts when it detects an unsupported version. if cfw just blindly applied patches then you break the os at best or the console ends up generating bad console logs that get you banned at worst

mad that people take nintendo updating and improving their os as "cat and mouse situation to try to block cfw" though. obviously if it weren't for cfw we would still be on firmware and sdk 4.0.0, the only reason why nintendo ever makes any changes to their code is to break cfw patches. disregard that people just don't update until cfw updates its patches, nintendo aren't stupid dude. nobody is trying or even expecting to break cfw on purpose with os updates. they are well aware of what it is and how it works. they know it's not possible to just "disable it" for those who are currently using it. they arent putting in all the time and money to work on their os just for the sake of making cfw not be able to run on a newer version for a week and it's kinda wild that people think this is the only reason nintendo ever updates the os

Because all those other entry points besides Atmosphere/Hekate that got fixed were just coincidences? Or enabling the TSEC co-processor and rebuilding the boot process was just them being random? Don't assume I'm saying that Nintendo updates the FW "only" to combat the hacking/piracy scene. I'm not. They can update the system AND combat hacking/piracy at the same time.
