The kind of amazing comedy from Late Night shows that are, thankfully, all going to get cancelled in the next decade.

Great moderation.

This is the same show you're talking about, which also made this degenerate form of a meme last year

You think millions of viewers would stay after this? It was bound to get canceled soon for trying too hard to be "quirky" and "cool"

It's impressive how Late Night shows continue to not be funny

I would like to know if this is being canned for the joke or just because TV is dying?

Broadcast ratings as a whole have been an unreliable metric for the last 15 years. I'm not a super big Colbert viewer anyway and would just catch random YT clips here and there so this might just be more a sign of the times but hard to say.

The latter

What’s the point of watching people you don’t care about talking with an annoying laugh track at night?

In today’s day of age it’s podcasts that gets people to watching because there’s more variety on the type of content you want instead that cringe only

It's funny how in a way we kinda just re-invented TV

The only thing closest to TV I have had in years is fucking Pawn Stars lmao

Sooo... do you have evidence that somehow this was anything other than See-B-S, and their new parent company Skydance Media, deciding to cancel an expensive and low-performing show?
That's not how it works any more thanks to Trump

This definitely ended because of whatever conspiracy theory that anyone can come up with, which implicates Trump and his deviant followers.

It's the case that Colbert's ratings have gone downhill and the show isn't very good or even all that funny. But it's also the case that the show has a very loyal Liberal fanbase (not the young people that Colbert thinks they appeal to but rather old people who still watch TV).

I think it's very, very suspect that Colbert just happens to get the boot RIGHT AFTER the merger and Trump settlement, I mean come the fuck on. Even a child could tell something's wrong here. The fact that Trump praised his cancellation and said other hosts were next almost implies he was directly involved in the decision. But it could go either way. Maybe it really was a financial decision and it just came at a very, very tone deaf time.

Now, if Jon Stewart gets canceled, you'll know for a fact it's to silence him, because Daily Show ratings are at an all-time high. And unlike Colbert, Stewart actually gives a shit and isn't just a corporate shill.

You're right about that. When Colbert took over the show, the average CBS Late Night viewer age was 60. Now it's 68.

Sooo you're just admitting that there is no evidence that it was anything other than See-B-S and their soon-to-be parent company Skydance Media, canceling an expensive and underperforming show, but at least you blamed something else...

Wow I didn't get any notification of this yet once again not surprised by the pissy snowflakes

Indeed, here you are... Still waiting for literally ANY evidence of your claim. Particularly in light of Hanafuda presenting the Hollywood Reporter snippet showing that their demographic group has only been shrinking as the population has "ceased to be" that continued to watch his show for the last 10ish years.

And yet you can't connect the very obvious dots of Trump praising a cancelation that coincidentally just happened to come right after a settlement with him (which we don't know the terms of yet) and Paramount being bought out by a company whose CEO is personal friends with Trump.

"Reject the evidence of your eyes and ears."

While true that there are now fewer viewers among all late-night talk shows, Colbert was still winning the time slot in Nielsen ratings with an average of more than 2.4 million viewers per night. The cancellation was undeniably part of a bribe, and nobody is going to do anything about it because corruption in government and business practices is the default under this administration.

On the bright side: Colbert is and always has been a powerhouse, he'll have networks lining up to give him offers. He's free to pursue independent projects or even run for public office if he wants too.

This is what actual freedom of speech violation looks like. Not the right-wing pundits being "silenced" by networks for things they said on Twitter, but the government literally, actually pressuring networks to silence their own critics.
