Hi everyone,

Last month I used modmii to mod my wii and install usb loader gx, and it was working fine. However, when I tried to open usbloader gx today it took me to the system menu instead of booting up. Launching usbloadergx from homebrew menu took me back to the homebrew menu. I don't understand why it isn't working all of a sudden. Before taking me back to system menu, usbloadergx says to "please install the stable version". I redownloaded d2x cios installer and followed a video guide but that didn't change anything. I have found similar posts on reddit, but they may be outdated or discuss solutions I can't understand. Can somebody please let me know what the issue is and how to fix it? Do I need to reinstall usb loader gx?

Best Regards,
David

You'll have to update usbloader gx as per this PSA

Thanks for the information, I really appreciate it. Can you please tell me how to update usbloadergx or send me a link with a video guide? Would simply downloading the zip file from https://oscwii.org/library/app/usbloader_gx and copying it to the root of my sd card automatically update usbloadergx?

Yes that would work. But as a modmii user, the rule of thumb going forward is if you want to check if your softmod and apps need updates you can just run modmii's syscheck updater wizard for the former and modmii's file cleanup and app updater feature for the latter. So even years from now this should still work as a check and covers everything, not just gx

I fixed usbloader not working by replacing the usbloadergx files. However, none of my games are showing up. I attached a screenshot of my usbloadergx menu below. I think I can solve the issue by selecting titles, but the top bar isn't showing up and I don't know how to make it appear. What should I do?

It looks like the top bar has been moved to the bottom center. Been a while since I've used a Wii so the redesign is new to me.

the bottom bar does not have the square icon that allows me to select title sources. Some additional information is that my sd card is fat32 format. The wbfs files are named in the correct format.

The rightmost button might be it. The + button for dumping discs to the drive used to be there but that has been moved to the center.
That or the leftmost button, I'm not sure what that one is.

The rightmost button did allow me to select title sources. Unfortunately, it did not fix the issue of games not showing up. Do you think I should try to install wiiflow via modmii? Will having both usbloader and wiiflow brick my wii?

Here is a picture of my usb in case anyone can identify any problems.

I was able to solve the issue by reorganizing my usb drive to follow this format. I thank everyone for their assistance. However, does anybody know why usbloader only recognizes the format I file order system I posted below? If so, how come the previous file arrangement worked fine for the previous version of usbloadergx?
💾 SD or USB HDD:
📂 wbfs
┃ ┣ 📂 GameName [gameID]
┃ ┃ ┗ 📜 gameid.wbfs
┃ ┣ 📂 GameName [gameID] -- This example is for split WBFS files. If your drive's file system is NTFS or your game is smaller than 4 GB, ignore it.
┃ ┃ ┣ 📜 gameid.wbfs
┃ ┃ ┗ 📜 gameid.wbf1
📂 games
┃ ┣ 📂 GameName [gameID]
┃ ┃ ┗ 📜game.iso -- This is not a placeholder, the file, with its file extension, should literally be named "game.iso".
┃ ┣ 📂 GameName [gameID] -- This example is for games with multiple discs.
┃ ┃ ┣ 📜game.iso
┃ ┃ ┗ 📜disc2.iso

Games should be recognized as long as they're in the wbfs folder (for .wbfs) or games folder (for .iso) regardless of subfolders or file names. Maybe this has changed in recent USB Loader GX versions.
Anyway, it's recommended to use the Game Name [GameID] format for reasons, Wii Backup Manager (and GameCube ISO Tool) can take care of managing the file and folder names for you.

In r1281 improperly named games would appear but fail to launch, in r1282 they won't display at all, indicating to users they should rename their files properly

The wbfs files are named in the correct format.
I was going to suggest naming the files properly, but didn't because of this (incorrect) comment made earlier

How do I run modmii syscheck uodater eizard and modmii file cleanup and app updater feature?

I installed this a while ago and I dont remember the structure of it all.

How did they make usb loader stop working in my wii? That seems like overreach, I didnt consent to that. Any help is much appreciated.

From modmii classic's main menu, enter SU or FC, or just open any syscheck.csv or drive or whatever supported file/folder type with modmii and it will shortcut you into whatever function(s) modmii has for the dropped item(s)

Also, GX r1282 test version stopped working because it was an unfinished test version. There's r1282 final as well as r1283 released now anyway. The dev shared it, I don't think he needs to get consent from everyone who downloads HIS work 😂
