CD Projekt Red showcases new tech demo for The Witcher 4

A brand-new look at the highly anticipated The Witcher 4 was shown off, at Epic's State of Unreal showcase. First, a two-minute trailer shows what are claimed to be in-engine graphics for a cutscene on a standard PlayStation 5 console. Then, it transitions to actual gameplay, giving a glimpse of a special tech demo build of the game that runs at 60fps.

CD Projekt Red goes into detail of what aspects of Unreal Engine allow for such high fidelity graphics and smooth gameplay. Nanite Foliage is a feature that can supposedly render landscapes in incredible detail, without compromising load times or performance.

Check out this Unreal Engine 5.6 tech demo for The Witcher 4, running on PlayStation 5 with raytracing. This Witcher 4 tech demo shows off the new Fast Geometry Streaming Plugin to load open-worlds faster, and we see how UE 5.6 handles busy scenes full for high-fidelity character models and visual effects like ML Deformer. Additionally, we see Nanite Foliage in action, which provides a memory-efficient way to achieve high density (and fidelity) foliage, slated for release on UE 5.7.

Welp Unreal 5 was the first mistake. I've yet to see a game on that engine that actually runs well on anything but top of the line hardware + DLSS

I think CDPR accidentally bottled lightning with Witcher 3. If you look at all their games before and since, it's obvious they don't know how they made Witcher 3 so great or even why it was so great. They accidentally made a near perfect game.

UPDATE 4:28pm UK: CD Projekt Red has confirmed to Eurogamer the demonstration in the Unreal livestream was a tech demo played live and running at 60fps on a base PS5, although this isn't meant to represent a final version of The Witcher 4.
From Eurogamer

So in other words this tech demo is just that. A tech demo. Not representative of the final game. Pointless.

I prefer less realism and more fun and accessible games...
I have great news for you! 99% of all games ever made fall into the latter category. Grab some emulators and play a few thousand of them over the coming years and the rest of us will enjoy our unfun and inaccessible but realistic games. 🤣

I'll be waiting a year or so for a bug-free Switch 2 port that I can take with me on the go to be released. Just like Cyberpunk and even the impossible port of The Witcher 3 to original Switch.

Wow! CDPR impressing gamers yet again! The game will definitely look like that on release. They'd never intentionally mislead us!
I was also angry and frustrated like everyone with the whole Cyberpunk situation, but Witcher 3 did deliver an amazing expirience and the Cyberpunk Youtube video you're showcasing here is not in game graphics and game-play like the Witcher 4 demo.

can't wait to see how much of a homage to equity and social justice this game is going to be.

I would love to play The Witcher 4 game on my PS5 or PC when it come out next year 2026 - 2027.

That's why I love all The Witcher games from GOG website where I bought them. I always avoid Steam for reasons due to DRM problems or something like that.

I can't wait to play The Witcher 4 and what look like maybe more awesome than old series of games. We should find out what's go on!

Cheers! :yay: :yay: :hrth:

After Witcher 3 and Cyber Punk, I have 0 faith in them. I don't care what people say, Cyberpunk 2077 is still a bad game imo. They were both buggy pieces of shit, and Cyberpunk was unforgivable.

I still have my unopened PS4 boxed copy of Cyberpunk 2077, because Gamestop gave it to me for free, because I bought a controller. I don't even own a PS4.
