Nintendo Switch Online retro catalog games for May 2025 announced

Get ready for some classic Game Boy action, as Nintendo has some new-old retro titles to add to the Nintendo Switch Online library. Headed to the service tomorrow are four games: Survival Kids, Gradius The Interstellar Assault, Kirby's Star Stacker, and The Sword of Hope. For those unaware, the Survival Kids franchise was localized as Lost in Blue in the west.

Yeah, it's strange Nintendo has been holding GCN up for Switch 2 as they could provide Wii/WiiU/NS1 games.

I guess that's too new for Nintendo.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Wii somewhere down the line since most of the work is done by making a gamecube emulator. I would love to see Wii U, and I think it may be possible technically (ESPECIALLY since they're bringing back the Wii U's streaming technology with gameshare), but I doubt that will be worth it for Nintendo to do with how much of the Wii U library already was ported to the switch. I would like to see DS/3DS emulation thought (again, game streaming to an old switch one would be awesome) just so we can finally have a unified ecosystem for everything Nintendo. That's probably too much of a pipe dream though.

Konami need to reveal a Bomberman collection. No one wants to play gameboy gradius when they JUST announced a collection Gradius origins. On top of survival kids getting remake.

Meanwhile, we only have the two Super bomberman R games konami made. No snes, N64, gbc, gba or nds games, all which could have been on the subscription with online multiplayer or in a compilation... with online multiplayer.

Still hoping to see Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD on the Switch 2.

A remake or sequel to TP would be amazing as I loved the original.

Oh, it's that Konami game with a girl that's only 3GB long.

Game looks like a phone title you'd play for 5mins.

Lmao! The only thing I remember about this game, was that it froze the Nintendo Direct.
Also, I don't like the art style for the new game.

And still no GB/GBC/Advance pokemon games..... ppl are getting ripped off with this subscription. Meanwhile modders added in a bigger library of games for hacked Switch. Only reason I sub was to grab the Gamecube Controller for S2.

I haven't played Kirby's Star Stacker. It's weird they ported the game boy version when they already had the snes version? Also there's an english patch for the snes version for anyone using an emulator https://www.romhacking.net/translations/4917/
even stranger is that they did the snes version without localizing it and it took this long to get gb star stacker when it was right there

I think the "ripped off" argument has lost it's credibility long ago. Some of the functionality may not be great, but it's hard to argue that there isn't $20 worth of content available.

$20 to play online and also able to play NES, SNES, and GB games? I don't see it being worth it.

However, if allows people to buy MNS exclusives so that's a good thing. I couldn't buy a GCN NS2 controller myself because of that bs paywall so I paid someone to get it for me.

Subscription value propositions are always finicky, but when you start comparing to other subscriptions the value works itself out. Whether you think subscriptions at all are worth it is one thing (I generally don't bother with subscription based services), but it's a pretty easy cost to justify. There is plenty of content available to justify at least 1 year of $20. At that point, if there's nothing else you want to play, just cancel. That's what I ended up doing. Would I prefer if you buy outright? Sure, but I can't and it's not like I don't already have a healthy stack of backups available elsewhere.

Subscriptions lose value the longer you have them for. It's a matter of knowing how to get in, get your use out of it, and get out

It always surprises me people use $20 and $50 as the price point. It's not exactly difficult to get seven other people for a family plan, and if you're only paying for one spot it's $4.37 for the standard or $10 for the expansion pass yearly. I certainly use it enough to get $10 of value per year lol

Unfortunately I don't have friends who play switch so I must fork the $20 or $50 dollars :/ The family plan is truly a killer deal though

its because switch 1 cant handle it.

you need linux and a hard overclock to make it moderately playable. but i would rather kill myself than play these games stuttering.

Dang, a tablet from 2017 can't play GCN games... That's quite disappointing.

didn't this rumor stem from the fact that people thought it would happen solely because stadium was announced and people also thought they'd also announce a completely separate app to make the pokemon transferable to modern games? I'm not gonna lie i was pretty skept about this rumor the minute it was brought to light, there's so many weird loopholes for reasonings on why they think it's possible.

i tried thinking about it too based on what's already there and i came to the conclusion that i feel like it'd be odd for them to make an update to all handheld NSO apps just to put restrictions on rewind as well as save states specifically for those games, plus unfortunately game freak if you notice, they seem to be alot more passionate about the newer generations in the sense that they give an ungodly amount of attention to it via promotions and external media.

XY, ORAS, SM, despite being really good they never got nearly as much promotion via external media except for the anime and toys, SV oddly has both and more, point being: during gen 6 and 7 they more or less had alot more room to give attention to past generation games (via virtual console) or if that never happened, realistically whatever they wanted.

though this is my own theory so none of it could be true, i tried to be as realistic as possible.
