Had been running everything off of SD card since 2023 without a problem. Recently freed up an HD so packed it full of wii backups as well as gamecube backups. That's when the trouble started and GC games stopped loading at all, even though they loaded without issue in Nintendont directly from SD or USB drive. My apps are still on the SD card.

Stopped loading = goes to a black screen that never resolves. Left it for up to 30 minutes.

Ultimately I can run GC games when USBLoader is in SD Card Mode. I can not however load them when SD card mode is off, even though the path is correctly set to the SD Card in the Path and Nintendont settings. To be thorough I've set both SD and Main path to the SD card folder.

I can run Wii games without issue off of the HD, but I can't access the HD while USBloader is in SD mode. So ultimately it's just annoying I can't work with the whole menu across the SD Card and HD at the same time, especially seeing how the GC titles appear in the menu (though won't load) with the HD enabled.

USB Uploader GX is a fresh install of the newest version, as is Nintendont. cIOS's should be up to date as I went through a full new ModMii softmod as a part of my troubleshooting, and I get no new cIOS flags reviewing the Systemchek.csv after a recent update.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Hello,

Please post a syscheck report here.

SD card and external hard drive ==> FAT32?

GX USB loader ==> V1281 or V1282?

From the GX settings ==> have you changed the disk settings ==> to SD or USB mode?

Maybe just renaming or erased your apps/usbloader_gx folder, then do a full fresh reinstall. Modmii just updates/overwrites any older versions if detected, leaving other config files untouched. In some cases those leftovers may cause issues, most of which I think have been addressed by the new new private build of gx (or so I've heard). This may or may not have been applicable in your case, but worth a shot.

That plus a syscheck would be a good start

SD Card and USB = Fat32
GX USB loader = V1282
GX Settings -> So if I want to run GC games off SD, I gotta be in SD mode - in which case, I can't access the USB. So I've been switching back and forth as necessary to access GC or Wii games.

I feel like I've done that.
I've definitely deleted the CFG files so they could be rebuilt. Same idea?

Have you checked these boxes since GX?

Yes.
To clarify, I can see the games. They run while on SD Card Mode (and selected from an SD card source), though further testing shows this can be a little hit and miss and WAY slower loading than with Nintendont directly. They do not run when selected from an SD Card Source while not in SD card mode, even though the path is properly set, hence why I can see them in the menu. They do not run from USB even though I can see them when sourcing them from the USB with path settings.

Since writing the first post, I've also discovered that I cannot run EMUNAND USB installed games from USB Loader. In those cases, I get kicked out to the homebrew channel.

Moving the Emunand to SD card worked.

Wii games are loading fine from the USB.

GC games are fine regardless of source in Nintendont directly.

The USB to be clear is an SSD in an enclosure.

It's all a bit weird as I don't know where the variables are creeping in after getting a handle on the settings and paths and presumably the right cIOS. Just leaves the randomness of the SD card and USB drive I guess?
