Long time lurker, but 1st time chatter here. I currently have a 2.5 SATA HDD hooked up to my homebrewed wii. I bought a y-cable beause I was concerned that the HDD would draw too much power from the wii and wouldn't work. I've succesfully booted and loaded emulators such as usbloadergx, nintendont, genesis plus gx, etc. but when trying to boot up retroarch from the homebrew channel I'm met with a black screen which returns me back to the home screen. HDD is formatted correctly and I know that I've configured retroarch correctly on my hard drive because when I upload the same files on a usb flashdrive it works without a hitch. If anyone has any suggestions for things I can try, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm completely stumped.

It has been my experience that the Wii doesn't work well with USB 3.0, some homebrew will work, while others will black screen. I had a Seagate portable drive with USB micro b that did much the same as you described. Using a regular USB micro cable made it work. Try connecting your drive with something that uses USB 2.0.

Thanks for responding. So the y-cable i'm currently using with my SATA 2.5 HDD is actually a 2.0 USB adapter. But my suspicion is that it's still drawing too much power and retroarch which is a more demanding homebrew application isn't working in the process? I'm unfortunately at a loss of what I should do since I knew going into this that USB 3.0 is a hit or miss.
