I mean...the translation is kinda unfinished anyway, and much of the text seems glitched. There's still some issues that need to be fixed before this project can be considered completed

Sure, but this is still a dramatic step past the "literally nothing" that manifested during the original project.

I think they wanted to release a finished project like Sakura Wars but they got stuck for some reason and never changed their mind I remember they were trying to translate the background assets as well.

Well he's demanding eadmaster to "discontinue" his work on it.

To eadmaster: in my opinion, ignore cyberwarrior, if he wants to make a cool nice and super polished translation then he can do still do it, no one is demanding him to stop, it's been 10 years in the works, we have had like 5 wars, 2 global recessions and a pandemic since he first announced it.

Yeah. Like, don't get me wrong, it's valid if real life takes precedence and all, but it's been ten years with basically no updates besides popping up every 4-5 years to go "it's still alive y'all, I promise the project's not dead!" At some point, dude's gotta provide literally anything to substantiate what he's saying: Screenshots, progress report, anything at all. But to my understanding, all he ever posted was like one screenshot once, or something.

Yeah I do agree that he should keep people update if he is working on it.

edit: They are sitting on a 0.9 version for a long time with almost 0 real update and now its like "We are working I promise" I like to believe in them but I want to play the game before I die.

They aren't working on it, and don't even plan to start working on it again now that this version is out in the wild, they haven't even been in contact with each other for a long time.

How the hell would you know that? Do you even bother reading news outside of Kotaku or something?

Then the original team should release what they worked on. Otherwise this "0.9 patch" claim screams trying to get some goodwill back after burning through it through years of silence.

It's totally fine if they aren't able to work on it anymore, or don't want to. Not updating people - than getting pissed that other modders have picked this project up - is shitty behaviour. This situation is the consequences of their actions. People rightly assumed their project is dead.

It's good we have this 0.3 version. Now we just need all the bugs, formatting and translation errors fixed.

This is incorrect. Since my last post here, I've been in the Discord server where both creators of the original project have been active. It's where they confirmed there's a version 0.9, provided screenshots, and said they're working on a showcase video. They still plan to continue this project, and the one that's currently out there is based on a very old build that's literally incompletable due to crashes.

They've released this showcase build video on YouTube. For those interested, you can view it below.

Though to paraphrase one of the commenters on the video, eadmaster did the right thing by releasing their awful patch. Thanks to them, the original team had to get their act together and release this update.

Yeah, the egotistical dick-swinging surrounding this whole drama has been incredibly stupid to witness. I'm not very familiar with fan translation culture, so I have no idea if this is just how the fan translation community is or if it's just some of them, but this scenario painted an absolutely miserable picture less about translating games for the love of the gaming community, and more about "calling dibs" and sitting on projects for over a decade, only to call people entitled thieves when the open source work is co-opted for another release.

Like, I'm not trying to be mean to Cyber or Sam, but being as prolific and helpful to the community doesn't give them a pass on this unfoundedly possessive and territorial behavior: Princess Crown isn't "their" game, it's a game developed by George Kamitani and his crew at Atlus, and owned by Sega, and these translators would do best to remember that.

Especially since this isn't a Sonic game, so you can bet SegaSammy and Atlus will likely be watching this now that a video has been released, and be ready to strike it down the moment Cyber and Sam's territorial behavior raises too much of a bad stink to be ignored.

It's probably been 12 years, actually. Not to mention that other PSP/console fan translation patches have started and finished in the time it took for this one to get to the point it's at. For comparison, it took about 6.5 years for the Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity ENG patch to be completed, and that's only because the project's lead hacker took a break from it for about a year or two before returning and finishing what they started. And that was without someone having to step in and continue working on it for them (though that was always an option, since the team was always looking for those with experience hacking a PSP to help - they didn't want to release anything until it was completed).

I mean, 6.5 years is a bit long, but understandable since nobody can be expected to work on something for free for 4+ years without taking a good break at some point to relax and get re-motivated. But 10-12 years? At that point, even those that are the most dedicated to the project will take practically anything, even if someone else has to step in and fill the gap (especially if said someone else provides regular updates, rather than years of silence between updates that are basically a bunch of nothingburgers).

I was hopping for an official english release with 13 sentinels, grimgrimoire once more or even with unicorn overlord !
Great work ! any chance to port it to psp version ? would love to play it on my oled vita !!
Thanks for you work !

EDIT:
I unpack the psp and patched saturn version most of the files have the same name size and format but switching them dosen't seems to change anything. I think the psp run the saturn games files like an emulator and load another hidden files with text on top of the satrun files.
The japanse front isn't the same and the text show psp buttons instead of saturn gonna see if i can find it

Phew...everyone here is really fucking angry, huh? You ain't even gonna show them a little mercy
I think that's an overreaction to what's actually being said here.

Plus, it's a scenario where the translators themselves are grumpy and getting into a spat. They're the ones who started the drama. What exactly do they need mercy for?

It's not emulated.

You can't just switch them because there is no SH on PSP, and the systems don't share formats.

Sharing the same extensions doesn't mean they are the same format. They could be converted into a new format but retain the original extensions.

PSP is MIPS-based, so it's an entirely different animal altogether.

Well, Cyber and Sam afaik technically didn't call dibs on making a translation patch for the PSP version, so that should still be up for grabs for anyone that's interested (the only reason no one did was likely due to an assumption that Cyber and Sam would work on that too, even if not explicitly stated). Different animal, yes, but as I noted above, we've seen some PSP translation projects make progress or reach completion within the last decade (Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity being one that immediately comes to mind). A Princess Crown PSP patch would just need people willing to work with the PSP version's coding in addition to the usual translation work.
