DBI - Russian menu translation to English

Mod edit:

The creator of DBI has threatened to place malicious code into his programs in the future to target English speakers

I would be hesitant to use DBI for any purpose going forward

----------

As the current releases of DBI are in Russian (I respect the authors decision in this) I tried to translate the, for me, most used menus in English
I combined several OCR, translate websites and the DBI 6.58 (last) English menu so here is my attempt in translation:

Code:
Главное меню Main Menu
============                    =========
Просмотр SD карты Browse SD card

Установка через DBIbackend Install title from DBIbackend

Подключение к серверу... Connect to server...

DBILogs DBILogs

Просмотр установленных игр Browse installed applications
Инструменты Tools

Просмотр тикетов Browse tickets
Просмотр сохранений Browse saves

Запустить МТР соединение Run MTP responder
Запустить FTP_сервер Run FTP server
Запустить HTТP сервер Run HTTP server

Журнал активности Activity Log
Настройки DBI Configuration
Выход Exit

Code:
Инструменты Tools
===========                                =====
Очистка системы от мусора Cleanup orphaned files
Удаление родительского контроля Delete parental controls
Удаление пользователя... Deleting user...
Удаление Wi-Fi профиля... Deleting Wi-Fi profile...
Запустить случайную игру Run random game
Информация системе System info
Создание фейковой записи о приложении Creating a fake app entry

Синхронизация времени по NTP NTP time sync
Проверка обновлений игр Check for title updates
Обновить titleDB Update TitleDB
Убрать фейковые тайтлы в конец списка Put all the fake TIDs into the end of the list
Заполнить свободное место на SD нулями Fill the free space on the SD with zeros
Сдампить текущую прошивку Dump the current console's firmware

I could not find any translation attempts on this forum so I think I will share this.
Post based on DBI 700

Let's have a positive attitude when we are offered something for free.

dbi is now only available in russian? what happened? not following scene drama, can anyone give a tldr version?

anyway i still use tinfoil since it's way faster than dbi when loading games off my nas with ftp (30-40MB/s vs 10-20MB/s, not sure why).
Sadly yes. I have also tried alternatives. As of today, I am ready to just update DBI app to a non-English version.

any reason to keep using dbi? like any specific feature dbi has but tinfoil doesn't?
It's got a couple of handy features, remove unused tickets and a clean up feature. That's the only reason I use it. Generally I use Tinwoo to install nsp and xci as I prefer the larger text and don't need to put glasses on to see what's on the screen.

To be fair to DBI though, it is good software with lots of features, it's just a shame that the dev seems to have something against English speakers now and won't add a config option to change the text from a text file or ini file.

Good to know, although i never used those features before. I think tinfoil can also delete tickets?

Anyway for me my only concern is the ability to connect to remote servers via ftp/smb/http/etc. And installation speed.

Other features I like: a) Can uninstall certain updates b) file manager - delete files c) check for game updates (no need for dedicated app) d) sometimes I use MTP responder for small files.

Most important feature is never failed to install anything.
In the past had some issues using other apps with few dlcs but I am not able to remember an example now

So it IS out of spite. I knew it. Why is the nintendo scene always full of children.
It's not just the Nintendo scene. I've taken part in a lot of stuff on and off over the years, starting with PSP. Every scene has its fair share of it. I actually make it a point to not be like that after some of the stuff I've experienced and seen over the years. If someone asks me something or wants something implemented, I usually just do it if I have time.

Are you aware of the save issue mentioned in one of the release note of DBI? As of sep 27 2024 JKSV didn't work for the game selfloss and DBI 700 did.

I wasn't. Probably isn't a hard fix, but my father is currently in the hospital with cancer and my hacked switch is the only thing keeping him busy. It gets fixed when when I get it back. There's no way in hell I'm taking it from him for something like that.

I'm really sorry to hear about your father’s situation—family comes first, and your priority should definitely be supporting him.

OK, out of interest I created an nro forwarder and then ran DBI via the forwarder.

Next I used edizon-se to dump the Heap+Main memory of the switch - I just copied the dump to my laptop for ease and looked at the dump, as expected we can find the strings from the menu (I used the English version for ease), It should totally be possible to patch these in memory and create an overlay - although for now I didn't have the time.

This would be amazing. This way the dev doesnt have to do what they dont want to do, and we get what we want :)

I took a look at the binary nro file before, seems like all menu strings are encrypted:

I don't speak russian so i only searched non-cyrillic words in the menu. There's no match. "DBIBackend" has 2 matches but they are definitely not from the main menu, just error messages. Also tried same searches on previous english releases, still no match. So it seems like the author is encrypting/hiding main menu text resources on purpose. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like an easy patch. Interesting enough there are tons of english error/info messages in plain text.

Also the author warned us not to tinker with the program or it may "do unexpected things", so until someone good at ida takes a look and confirms there's no brick code, I say we'd better not mess with it too much

I had a look with ida pro as well, I extracted the elf file from the nro but I think it was compressed and that's why I couldn't see any strings in ida, or maybe they were encrypted? That's why I went down the memory patching route instead as this seemed a bit easier.

any reason to keep using dbi?
Absolutely not.
Probably isn't a hard fix,
Fix is easy - do not use libnx's stdio functions and only use native fs calls.

It can not happen because it do present.

It just pushes last eng version from 659 to 709 and that's all.

Also - you was too hurry and did not wait until 19.0.0 support fully added. What a pity. Also, big thanks for sharing plans.

That's what I figured. Looks like JKSM's FS wrapper is getting ported over to Switch after almost 10 years.

Edit: Oh, and don't pat yourself on the back for telling me something I learned almost 10 years ago. You wouldn't be the first. JKSM didn't use ctrulib's stdio for a reason.
