I will be honest, thinking about this situation with the emulator and some of the responses I see...
1. The Nintendo Switch is still a massively supported platform, and it will likely remain like so even when the successor model comes to be. Games and such will still come for the platform, similar in fashion to the many developers still releasing games for the PlayStation 4, regardless of the PlayStation 5 and now the pro model being a thing (not sure if this applies to the Xbox side of things). Trying to knock on a still supported platform is pretty stupid to be doing at this moment in time, you should focus on gathering and formulating information behind the scenes for the future whenever things start to come to a close, that way things can be tuned at better pacing, that and it's a safer way to extend upon the existence of the platform, a last stand for its legacy if you will.
2. Emulation is very much a legal concept (unless you steal official source material to make it work), however when I think about the scale of emulation from years ago up to now, and how people really utilize these resources, I have to say a lot of people nowadays are much worse than they used to be with how one goes about handling these capabilities, now it's extremely common for people to be stuck up, entitled, and spoiled rotten to the point where they really don't care anymore about morals, values, etc., let alone can hold a point straight when one brings up reasons like "preservation" and such, if anything such points come off as excuses.
We are to the point where we should be questioning the logic and behavior a lot of people have, and if whether or not we deserve any of these things to begin with due to the sour nature of the scene majority of the time, because I am here to tell you now, "preservation" is not a primary reason (let alone a reason that exists in the list period in many cases) that most people have for doing the things they do, I know for an absolute fact it's more about being entitled, expecting access to things, and the illusion of thinking one is owed things without any real consequences for said actions, overall straight up damning levels of selfish behavior. The amount of justifications that a lot of people spit really proves that point further. It's a serious concern when people not only lie and convince themselves that what they are doing isn't a bad thing, it's even worse when one pumps that narrative openly and in some cases, forcefully onto others. You know it's wrong if you have to double down to justify and create twisted excuses and paint the word "reason" on top of them.
3. Truth be told, piracy in terms of the law is rather broad and broken. Piracy has saved a lot of media from being lost in time, and it is a solution for those living in far more unfortunate circumstances, especially in less developed portions of the world, and it is especially useful when supported platforms are no longer supported in the future, but piracy has also brought some of the worst minds out to play, and to be honest, there is a lot more busted mindsets in the field than there is anyone with any real logic anymore. Most people operate like vultures with this sort of stuff, and it's rather stupid and sad. There needs to be a lot of change, and it needs to be change for the better, not for worse, because as it stands, this shit is getting too thick that it's ridiculous, and everyone knows it.
We can sit all day and talk about how corporations are bad and all, but at the end of the day, most people aren't so different from the corporations they bash, most people act like entitled jerks over games and such, much like corporations also act like entitled jerks for one's money for such contents. Corporations at times can be assholes over fan projects and efforts, yet most people are also assholes who not only bash the company in general to the point of harassment, but also mistreats the works of developers and such too, some cases even the developers are openly harassed, in a lot of cases for some really dumb "reasons" if they can even be called that. Corporations are selfish and greedy a lot of times, but the average consumer tends to be that way too in other ways. None of these things are right, and none of the current approaches are effective at doing really anything other than bringing out the worst in people on both sides of the fence. If someone wants to point fingers, maybe start pointing the fingers at yourself for your own errors, before you start pointing at others for the same errors you make yourself, whether it be another person or an entire corporation.
I believe everything happens for a reason, good or bad, regardless of if we agree, disagree, understand it, or not. Maybe this is a sign that the way things are going isn't great or in the right direction, maybe we need to do better on both sides, otherwise, I suspect these things will keep happening and progressively become much more aggressive in nature to the point that these nice things will end up going away, maybe not now, maybe not in 10 years or so, but sooner than later somewhere down the line it will happen.
