...speaking of Nic Cage...
Longlegs ...somewhere between Silence of the Lambs and Se7en, with hints of Carrie and numerous other cornerstones of genre cinema. As an exercise in tone and tension it's superb... however, it's one of those films that the more I dissect it, the more it falls apart. Slightly dissappointing, given how hyped it was.

I watched Longlegs today. I thought it was good. Overhyped and a little overrated, but still entertaining. Nic Cage was awesome in that. I'd also compare the movie to the first season of True Detective.

I finally saw Deadpool & Wolverine the other day. It was good and I made me miss the Logan movie!

Americans sugar coated the tragic Japanese massacre they suffered with the atomic bomb. Wah wah.

Now I'm wondering if I can, I don't know, sugar coat 9/11 and call my movie: "2 Towers 1 Plane" or something like that.

Good Time. Directed by the Safdie brothers, who made Uncut Gems. If you like Uncut Gems, then you'll probably enjoy Good Time. Intense Crime/Thriller that preys on your anxiety, carried by a great Robert Pattinson performance.
 
I watched the 2009 Astro Boy movie and I would say it was entertaining despite not being much of a big deal (I'm aware that I don't know much about the Astro Boy franchise).
 
Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In. Very fun Hong Kong martial arts movie. Probably my favorite action movie of the year.
 
Fullmetal Alchemist: The Conqueror of Shamballa. I liked it as a conclussion of the 2003 anime although I didnt feel it being too long. Also idk why fans like to pretend it doesnt exist.
 
Friday the 13th 1-4. I didn't have time to watch more, I probably could've watched the first 6 , but 4 is the best in the franchise, so, good to end on a high note. The first one doesn't hold up as well because of how much of a slog it is. Part 2 is a bit better, though suffers from the same flaws. Part 3 is a step up with a more diverse cast of characters, the introduction of the hockey mask, and the comical 3D pandering. It was part of the 2nd wave of 3D movies in the 80s. Part 4 is basically the best aspects of the first 3 movies with a few more likable characters, oddly enough played by Corey Feldman and Crispin Glover, better kills, better pacing, the best a cheap and dirty 80s slasher can get.
 
Friday the 13th: A New Beginning. A massive letdown from Part 4, such a mixed bag. The good includes John Shepherd doing a fine job as the mentally scarred Tommy, Shavar Ross as the lovable Reggie, and some other memorable side characters. Some good kills as well. The bad includes excessive nudity, toned down violence, and a lack of featuring Tommy.

Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. In this viewing, I was less bothered by the flaws of the movie and more happy with the positives. I now view this as one of the best in the franchise. The meta comedy, the refreshing final girl, the numerous horror references, some dope kills, and Alice Cooper made this a fun movie.

Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood. Kane Hodder is the best Jason, his debut in this movie was strong. Such a badass with impressive stunt work and adding more character to Jason via certain body movements and the intense breathing. The final girl being a Carrie knockoff was refreshing too, resulting in an epic third act, though the conclusion of it will always bug me. The violence is still toned down and a certain associate producer got too involved in creative decisions that cost the film. Still, it's a good entry in the franchise, it's just so obvious to me that it could've and should've been better.

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan. Boring as fuck. Kane Hodder was dope, but he couldn't save this movie. I didn't care about much of the cast, the movie was way too slow and the longest of the franchise by this point at 100 minutes. Jason didn't "take" Manhattan until a little over an hour into the movie, and even then, most of that was in Vancouver! What a waste of time, the death knell of Friday the 13th's time under Paramount.
 
Abigail. Fun horror/comedy from the same guys behind Ready or Not. I like their style even if it doesn't reinvent the wheel and the stories are predictable. Just sheer entertainment.

Gets her finished in less than 10 afterwards.
So... who really won? 🤔

Street Trash. Super disgusting 80s body horror/comedy with incredible practical FX, the budget helped with that, but didn't help with everything else. Bad acting, bad dubbing, strange sound design, but all of that makes up a good chunk of the comedy. A fun time overall.
