Ok, I made some people (sorry @CoolMe ) sad in the "What reasons are there to buy a PS5?" thread. I don't dislike Twilight Princess, but I don't feel it's as strong an entry as, say, A Link to the Past or Ocarina of Time. Some of the criticisms I have are:
  • Very low difficulty.
  • Some of the items (like the hoverboard) felt out of place.
  • Hyrule Field felt lifeless.
  • The tone seemed a bit uneven at times, like when Ooccoo would pop in or when Zant had that breakdown.
  • Long tutorial.
The game definitely has some good points:
  • The 3D Zelda mechanics are still top notch.
  • Great graphics.
  • I appreciated that they tried introducing levels that weren't "just temples," like the Snowy Mansion area.
  • Nice orchestrated Hyrule Field track.
I'm interested in Zelda fans making a case for the game. My memories are over 15 years old at this point, and I remember playing through the game quickly due to time constraints. I want to be enlightened.

Dude, you're free to express your opinion on things however you want. Definitely not "sad" about it or anything like that.
-With that said, for me TP is one of my favorite Zeldas, if not my favorite *traditional* Zelda game. Yes, it might seem weird with things like the Twilight world, or when Link turns into a wolf in the Twilight realm, but ALttP had the Dark world too, when Link turns into bunny Link, so it's not really all that different. I liked Midna, def better than all Link's "companions" up 'til this point.
- Have nothing against the gameplay, combat mechanics or weapons/abilities. Apart from when Link is on Epona and has to use the bow to defeat enemies (that escort mission in the mid-game comes to mind, it was very annoying, it took me many tries to get it)..
- As for the dungeon/temple designs, they're not too obtuse, just the right amount of challenge/difficulty to figure out puzzles without the need of checking guides etc. Enjoyed the exploration too.
Nothing against boss fights either from what i remember.
- The back and forth switching from the normal to the Twilight world didn't get jarring, atleast not for me, the combat in the the Twilight world against those Twilight beings (can't remember what they're called) was a nice change from regular combat, specially when they start making it harder by putting barriers to cripple your combo..
Oh, and i also enjoyed those Twilight world dungeon puzzles in the late game..

So yea, have nothing but fond memories of this game, last a played it was in 2020 i think (my 2nd playthrough overall), so it's not just nostalgia speaking.
Cheers!

Twilight Princess is one of those games that I remember really fondly, but never manage to actually finish when I go back to it. It's a solid game all in all, but I will say it has the worst water temple of the series. That place is like a brick wall for me. I must have four or five saves at that point between the various systems I've played it on lol

the dungeons and combat in that game were peak, I get why people would dislike other things about it though

My thought is, it needs to come to Switch, but the superior Wii version. (You GameCube cucks can suck it, Wii version is definitive.)

It's weird to me how they make a dark and gritty Zelda game like that, and then the sequel is Link's Muddy Easter Adventure (Skyward Sword) right after. Like, damn... They backpedalled so hard.

Motion controls? No thank you.

I don't mind the change in tone, the game looks beautiful either way.. Of course the two BIG flaws for me (as i'd assume everyone who played it would agree) is of course the motion controls, and everything that it affected. the combat simply sucked because of it. also no controllable camera? Wtf. And those flying sections i'd wish they weren't there.
As for dungeons, i enjoyed quite them a bit.
If it wasn't for the motion controls SS would've been one of my top Zelda games imho.

I played this game on the Wii ten thousands years ago, and the only thing I remember not liking was the motion controls. Point and shoot controls were OK, the problem was having to swing the Wiimote like a madman for swordplay.

The game was easy, very easy, but I don't feel bad about that.
For some reason I have this memory that the game was a little short, but I don't think it is shorter than most other traditional Zelda games. I don't have this feeling regarding A link to the past... but sure that one was shorter... I think?

Anyway, I don't remember TP very well, I didn't replay it later. I've replayed Ocarina many times, I guess I like Ocarina more than TP. That said I remember enjoying TP a lot back then.

I'd actually agree with you here. As soon as I finished it first time round on Gamecube... I never wanted to play it again and haven't. THAT is not in line with a Zelda game!

Yeah that hoverboard thing, the unholy bird with the human head, the light tear quests, those annoying children and some of the music i never wanted to see or hear again!!

As someone said, it was too 'dark' in aesthetic and I think and that's why SS was soooo colourful... Nintendo heard! Somewhere in between the two would have been perfect imo!

Especially this one. I have never hated a computer character so much in all my life.

wat that was one of the coolest things in the game. and what about the pinball boss?!
Just wasn't for me. Felt too clunky even when used on the rails and I don't recall a pinball boss! (that's just my old ass memory tho!)

Exactly! I don't condone violence towards children but that is a face that needs a slap! :rofl2:
