Hi I’m looking for this method is it with cable and Hekate? Or is there better methods?

I want to add folders to the sd card for smash bros mods.

Do these methods better do they use cable ?

You can use DBI or Tinfoil both are window drag-and-drop installs of your "backups"
For folders and programs too? Is that nut for tinfoil?

you can make new folders within DBI menu without connecting to a pc. iirc

Depending on what you are trying to do, if you are updating CFW files you can use Hekate mount feature, if you are installing game via usb cable method you can use dbi as suggested.

Is for doing smash bros mods the website that does them recommended a ftp client but not specific one. Are they above ftp or should I just use them ?

FTP transfers files wirelessly. I prefer to keep my hacked Switch in aeroplane mode so I don't accidentally tell Nintendo about anything naughty. So I use a USB cable.

I am on a Mac with access to Windows using Parallels. I can mount the SD card using Hekate within Mac OS. If I want to install things, I need to boot up Windows to use DBI's MTP mode, which shows up several volumes including 'SD install', which actually installs games when you copy the NSP file to it.
