Microsoft is closing down several gaming studios, including Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin

The number of layoffs and cuts in the videogame industry sadly continue to grow, with the latest huge layoffs coming from Microsoft, due to what MIcrosoft calls a "reprioritization of titles and resources" from a variety of companies and studios under their helm.

This action caused 4 well-known game studios to completely shut down, with said studios announcing the sad news today through their social media accounts. The known game studios that were hit by these changes and will close down are Tango Gameworks; known for games such as Hi-Fi Rush and The Evil Within, Arkane Austin; developers of Redfall, Alpha Dog Studios; developers of Wraithborne and MonstroCity: Rampage, and Roundhouse Games.

These layoffs mean that certain games, like in the case of Arkane Austin's Redfall, will no longer be developed and won't receive any further updates.

It's unknown if the hundreds, and even thousands, of cuts and layoffs that are sweeping the video game industry will continue, but with the current state of affairs, sadly it doesn't seem to be slowing down at any moment.

Thanks.

I guess the only thing I could say is that this is a major loss, and it proves to indie companies and their games that they will forever last than anything AAA, because since their game is in the hands of those bigger companies, they will have to always bear the fact that their own creation might get shut down.

@Romy_Arths said to me that Mikami thankfully got out Tango a while ago, before this closure.

I believe that that he will continue to make great games

That's really terrible for everyone at those studios - especially as they probably thought they had it made back when they were acquired.
One things for sure; the days of mass acquisitions of studios is a thing of the past.

This feels like a punch in the gut. No more Dishonored. Same with Tango. I enjoyed Ghostwire and Hi-Fi Rush. Was hoping they'd make another for both.
We kinda have a chance that they're gonna put this franchises in other studio... but all of them still in Microsoft hands... so the chances aren't high
