Best controller ever

Gotta Say the Gamecube Controller. While I mainly use the Xbox Controller, The grip of the scary cube is magnificent and personally wished that I can use one on my PC in terms of using it for modern gaming. The potential that it has... But it has no ZL or ZR buttons (or a select button adapted from the 64). If someone were to have all of this, then i'll have the ultimate GameCube controller

Competition Pro Extra was the best for Sensible Soccer.
Wasn't that a joystick?? I do seem to remember a 'pad' back in the day but it was more snesy/mega drivey lookin??? Outstanding game tho! (and i see now a joystick is included in the list!)

Gotta say tho, the cube controller was awesome as was the absurd yet excellent design of the N64 but I went for snes for nostalgia... The UK version without the parma violets for buttons! :rofl2:

Yeah classic joystick design similar to the Zipstick... The "Extra" version had a thick rubber ring around the base of the stick, making it stiffer (:creep:) than regular joysticks.

I really, really liked the Classic Controller Pro, and I haven't found anything as comfortable since then :/

edit
guys I found out that you can buy an adapter to connect your classic controller pro to the PC and I'm so happy right now. It's coming next week.

Last edited by Windaga,
For me, it's the Xbox 360 controller, but the dpad isn't great for 2D games. Currently, I have a Saturn controller and an Xbox One controller hooked to my PC. So, with the exception of N64 games, I'm in good enough shape.

If Retro-Bit ever releases that dual-stick Saturn controller, we may have a new contender.

i have the usb-gold version. i've never used it, but still couldn't resist buying it years ago

I don't have a 'best' controller, they all have their pros and cons.

In terms of modern controllers, I tend to prefer Xbonx for 3D and PS for 2D/DPad.

Going on a tangent though, the only time I recall preferring a third party controller over the official one was my Competition Pro controllers on the MD, mainly because of the longer cable, turbo buttons and putting the Start button where it belongs.

Oh my! Atari 2600 joystick?! That goes way back, but it's actually the first controller I ever used to play a video game. Only one button, but that's all that was needed for those games back then, The stick was kind of stiff, and it would quickly break under intense use, maybe after a couple of weeks. Luckily they were cheap to buy. In the list provided, I would go for the classic Genesis controller, both 3 and 6 buttons. Very nice designs, very comfortable to use, and very durable. The classic PlayStation design is also neat (PS1,PS2 and PS3... I stopped buying Sony consoles after that.)

In terms of modern controllers, I'd say the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. (sadly not listed) I've owned one since April 2020, and still no sign of drift. Also good for Tetris!
My personal favourites would be, and I know this isn't really a "controller." But the bottom half of the 3DS. And the Gamecube controller.

My current favorite all around is the 8bitdo Ultimate. Low latency, perfect size, nice and heft, wide range of compatibility, works pretty good for everything. But personally I prefer to use different controllers a lot and for simpler games I do prefer a smaller one compared to the ultimate. If I don't need sticks I usually pick up a SNES styled one like the SN30 Pro or a PBtails choc.

Edit: Just for a giggle the list should have included the original Duke controller for the OG Xbox.
