I modded my 3ds years ago and I just tried to update it and am getting an error reading "An exception occured" if I try to turb it on. I see a lot of people calling it an ARM11 error.

I see a lot of things saying I need an SD Card to fix it but I don't believe my 3ds ever had one? I just downloaded homebrew stuff for themes so I don't think I had one when I installed everything (don't ask me how. I don't remember)

Basically, if I get an SD card now, how do I go about fixing my system?? I don't know how to turn it on to access anything on it and I'm worried I won't be able to. (Please be clear in answers; I don't remember a lot about all this modding stuff)

Provide a FAT32 formatted and tested (h2testw, F3) SD and start here:

The boot file on SD takes preference over the one on NAND. Given you provide a good SD, a good file and the console SD reader isn't damaged, it will use the boot file from SD.

so if i just get an sd card and follow the guide, i'll be good?

Can you access Luma3DS menu or GodMode9, when holding select or start on boot?
By "i tried to update it" means you couldn't, because of the error?
I'd get an sd card, check for errors with h2testw as mentioned, then format it as FAT32 32kb clusters and put only Luma3DS and GodMode9 files on it.

yes! i can access luma menu and godmode

by "tried to update it" i mean that it seemed to update but when it restarted at the end, it gave me the error on boot up.

Did you do any of the above suggestions?
what suggestions? just downloading the stuff you mentioned? i havent done that just yet.

Ok. What happens now?
everytime i try to turn on my system it give me the arm11 error directly after the splash screen. ("an exception occured" at the top in bright red text with "processor: arm11 (core 1)" and a whole bunch of strings of numbers and letters)
