The Beatles: Rock Band for Wii (My Review)

Okay, so I went to a thrift store and managed to get an unopened copy of The Beatles: Rock Band. I'm not really a Beatles fan, but I figured I might as well try this title. After all, I do like "Hey Jude" and "Twist and Shout". and I find some songs funny and whimsical like "Yellow Submarine". So, I tested it.

The Intro

The intro of the game is probably the strangest I've ever seen in a video game, and I've seen some strange intros. It starts out normal enough, with animated likenesses of John, Paul, George, and Ringo playing venues and running from crowds. Then, as they go up an escalator, the scene merges into a psychedelic and other-worldly landscape, with a solar eclipse that has eyes, walking fish, and various other creatures and things that are alien in nature.

Songs and Customizations

There's a few songs on there that were a hit for the Beatles, as well as some songs that are less commonly known (except to die-hard fans). Unlike other Rock Band titles, you don't get to create your own unique characters in this game. You don't even to choose which band member you want to play as, which was kind of disappointing.

Story Mode

Story Mode takes you on a trip with the Beatles from their earliest records to their eventual breakup. You get to play several Beatles-related venues, including the Ed Sullivan Show. It's more a historical music game in regards to just playing the music.

Extras

To add to the historical value of this game, it has some unlockable photos. If there's certain Beatles songs you don't like, though, that can pose a problem when playing this game - To unlock all the photos, you have to play every song on the disc, at least once.

Drawbacks

Since the Nintendo WiFi Connection and Wii Shop have both been terminated, the Music Store is inaccessible. That means no more Beatles DLC. It may be possible to hack this so the DLC can be accessed, though.

Can It Be Hacked?

If you can hack Rock Band 2 on Wii/vWii and without needing to downgrade the Wii, then it's likely that The Beatles and Green Day Rock Band titles can be added to. Thus, you can add the missing songs for both, and then some! However, neither title uses the sZAE through sZFE generations, nor do they use the sZGE+ generations for RB3. The Beatles uses R9JE, and Green Day uses R36E. Keeping that in mind, it is possible, but hasn't been attempted yet (at least, I don't think so).

Do you have the Wii version of The Beatles: Rock Band? Have you added customs to it yet? If so, let me know in the comments below!

I played it on the 360, (loved it) I'm a big fan of the Beatles, wanted to play it again but some of the better songs IMO are DLC, so that paywall sucks the fun out of owning these games. This, THIS is why I'm against DLC. it kills games after consoles lifetime, We're getting ready to get a release of new Fire Emblem another fav of mine and already the 3DS versions are useless without a hacked system, another paywall death toll.

IMO retro is what MADE Nintendo, this trend toward preventing new games from one day becoming retro (preventing effective archiving via fragmenting games down into... game/update/patch etc...) from here on out is their own death in the making. sorry for off-topic rant
