‘Temp has changed - what do you notice?

Hi!
I have mentioned it before, this isn’t my first account on the temp.

Back in my early teen years I used to have millions of different usernames and email addresses.. cuz you know it was cool creating new email addresses back then and having multiple MSN accounts lol

But I remember, I was around here first during the slot 2 NDS flashcart era.

I remember how helpful, kind, respectful and awesome people were when I asked questions about the M3 DS perfect.

The biggest change I noticed is how quickly people jump the gun. This forum has several sections and sub forums for different purposes. If someone asks a question that has been asked a billion times, you don’t need to be volatile and rude towards them. In fact, you don’t have to reply at all if you don’t want to. Why not let someone else reply who feels helpful and wants to reply?
I understand it can get annoying and repeatative. But think about it, you just don’t have to respond if you don’t want to. “If you got nothing nice to say, say nothing at all!”

Oh and I remember @JPH , @Bonemonkey , @Hadrian , @acegunman @xcalibur

Many many many older active users.

So what do you think has changed the most?

I have been around since about 2005/2006ish. I know there are people on here who have been around since launch.

I think the thing that has had the most change is the new tempStyle, if it wasn't already obvious. (You probably don't know who the fuck I am to be honest)

I lurk around lol. I hardly pay attention to usernames these days.
This isn’t a social platform to me really.. so ya, I haven’t really been active when it comes to the social aspect of this forum.

Only person I met in real life is @heartgold and he is the most humble, amazing dude ever!

yeah lots of changes and many bad ones in my opinion.

of course the jump from rom site to a gamers community was necessary but after v3 which was the best the two never designs were just horrible :/

and the release list was removed which was the most important part for me seeing whats out including pictures especially as this helped me a lot finding games I never heard about ...

and yeah as you said lots of stuff does repeat itself over and over again.

Still sometimes its nice to have a look

Ah! I miss the ROM release list lol. I was also really fond of the old style of temp. Never really got used to after they moved to xenforo.

@Youkai and you were right about trying out and finding out about games you wouldn’t have otherwise.

I remember Yggdra Union was on the GBA release list as the most recent rom forever... and I actually tried that game lol

As each year goes by, the abundance of cringy shitposters increases. Simple as that.

Anyone remember when threads in the EoF were actually funny and thought out? I surely do when I joined in 2015.

I'm relatively new. I made an account a little over a year ago (maybe) but I've only been active recently. It seems that a lot of old timers see this place taking a turn for the worse, but this is still one of the most friendly forums today. To be fair, I've only been a member of two other forums (starmen.net and zeldainformer). Zelda informer was absolute trash. Stamen was alright but not my cup of tea. Oops, I went on a little tangent there. Anyway, this sounded off topic but I mean all this to tell you people what a new guy notices.

I'd complain, but I've heard certain people consider me part of the problem...

I'd kill to go back to 2007... This new age temp is.. Kind of cringy.. There are a few members that joined within the past 5 years that would have been great back then. I've poorly adapted to the newer members, and realistically I want to smack half of em upside the head with a trout. No doubt I'm not much better, but I was a much better person back then too.

I have definitely seen a shift in mentality. Back then, there were more people who put in effort in research prior to asking questions and were more humble. Now we have a truckload of loudmouths who expect to be spoonfed every little step of the way and get hyper defensive over the smallest criticism. Plus, now everyone seems to be racing to shitpost every opportunity they get. :\

More than a change found in just GBAtemp, I feel like its a change in general for all online sites. Every site I go on now, I see communities with toxic people being entitled, harassing others, having no idea how to take a joke, etc constantly.

And, I mean, to be fair, there was a LOT of snark back in the day, too, just not as rudely, ex.
"Can I play GBA roms on R4 plzzz"
>10 people post how much of an idiot OP is

The thing I miss the most, or what's changed, is that homebrew itself isn't as amazing or needed as much as it was back in ~2010. We have smartphones and tablets now--we don't need an eReader or MP3 player on our DS. Now, it's just piracy, and people that think they're entitled to having that piracy, and thats just annoying.

I joined in 2011 during the peak of the Wii homebrew scene, and there was a lot of excitement. But now, certain homebrew scenes exude verbal toxicity.

GBAtemp did not change from the 2000s to the 2010s,what happened was that most of the older members grew up and quit playing video games. Many have families/jobs to tend to that take priority over videogames and I assume the hobby was just forgotten about for many.Reason temp changed is because the culture changed. Most people's opinions on anything from politics,to religion, ect is straight from the mainstream media's mouth. It isn't the same country that this was in the 90s. High school isn't anything like what it was in the 90s in America and what made you popular back then could make you an outcast now just to give you an idea on how much things have changed. There is huge political turmoil in America to the point where people are overtly hostile about their political preference.Society in America is in a period of complete moral degeneracy where every single person wants to live a life of indulgence. People assume if it feels good it must be good, which unfortunately is usually never the case.

It's people who constantly change, not for the better, and want everything handed to them on a silver/golden/diamond platter.
That and increasing toxicity in gaming communities in general.

That and the popularization of (shitty) memes.

There were some really cool dudes back then, but also lots of drama, bans and warnings in the homebrew section. The mods certainly had their work cut out for them. The GBAtemp now has less drama and more “mature” discussion. Then again, this is only my impression and I don’t read the EoF at all so it might not be that accurate.

Man JPH can fuck off

Bonemonkey was banned but has since made a second account that we allowed, but he's pretty inactive :(

I miss the days of DS flashcarts, DLDI, and people actually being able to make and take jokes in the "Testing Area".
