Screw you iPod

So, I admit to having 3 iPods.
 • 5.5G iPod Classic 60GB
 • 6G iPod Classic 80GB
 • 1G iPod Touch 8GB
I used my 60GB so much, but it's been through a lot as well. The screen is badly internally messed up, plus I needed more space.
My iPod Touch is pretty awesome, I'd use it a lot more as my default, if I had one with more space.
And my 80GB iPod Classic seemed like the best of both worlds. Space, and it was practically new.

Then I encountered this stupid problem that plagues certain iPods.

My 80GB started skipping through songs, and by skipping, I mean literally skipping through. I would select the first song of a playlist and it'll just skip through all the songs in said playlist until it hit the end and went back to home. It's stupid. Plus, no amount of restoring, reformatting, resyncing, etc, could prevent it. It's not even all playlists. It's certain songs. Bah.

So, if there is no real way to prevent it, I'll be on the road for a MP3 player.

Any suggestions?

Only real requirement is to be at least 80GB. Yeah.

Off the top of my head the only player I can think that has at least 80gb is a Zune. :( That requirement is a bit hard to fulfill.

Ah! I always have wondered about the Zune. I've always meant to put the money down for one, especially because of the size, but I never did. Maybe I should break down for one when I have money.

Anyone one know how reliable they are? :x

From what i've heard a drop from even waist height onto the right surface will demolish the screen even WITH protective casing, im not sure if this has been fixed with the newer models but the first zunes had a VERY poor build to them.

Try out the software to see if you like it. If you don't, then you're better off with a new ipod classic. There's no harddrive players left besides iPods and Archos. Archos products are meh anyway.

Oh, and if the older Zunes are anything like the ZHD, then they'll survive practically anything.

EDIT: I forgot about the existance of the 64 gig touch. Go for that.

Just like the Xbox. :teach:

You might try to get a player that has SDHC compatibility, because I have my doubts to you being able to find a 80 GB outside of an iPod/Zune.

P.S. These may not be the prettiest players, but may fit your needs better:
Lyra 40 GB
Lyra 20 GB
Different Lyra 20 GB<- this is the one I have, and it fits my needs great!

Well, the only players that have that much capacity are probably the shitty overpriced Apple ones or Zune. I'd get a Zune.

I have an old Creative Labs player (like 5 years old) and its still going strong. I'd consider looking into their players.

whats are you talking about

first gen zunes were built like bricks
they could withstand a very heavy beating with the very thick plastic shell they used

Does what skip songs? Why would you encode it lower that only makes it sound worse?

If you need that much, you can get a SmartQ with a usb port and a usb hard drive. Oh yeah, did I mention it's like a cheap version of the archos only smaller and it runs windows android and ubuntu at the same time?

LOL. Why is Zune's software so.. crap. It's unnecessarily cluttered. Maybe that is a key sign to stay with Apple.

The problem isn't the music because I put the same songs on my 5.5G and they played fine, it's the Classic itself.
I remember my iPod classic started skipping too, I got mine fixed by reinstalling the driver.
Oh, I should maybe try that. Since before it started skipping it was having difficulty just trying to connect to my PC.
Edit: Well, I tried that twice. No dice, haha. Oh wells, I'll see how things will turn out!

The cause of the songs being skipped through is that the song files are not there or corrupted, but the the files that have the info about them is still there.
The ipod skips them because since there is no song, it thinks that it is at the end of the song, so it goes to the next one.
You need to format and re install-the firmware. It should work then.

even if you re sync it, itunes will still think the songs are there.
