Planning A Trip To The UK Summer 2017 (study abroad program)

Hello my fellow tempers and temptresses lol.

Some of you know me, some not so much. Anyways, ive been a member here for a few years now, but i digress.

Anyways, i live in the US and have never left the country in my life. My college has a study abroad program, but until recently, i thought in order to take part in it, you had to go to another country for an entire semester. That would never work for me as i work. No employer is going to be cool with someone taking that much time off lol. Anyways, i just found out that they do short courses too woot! So the trip im planning on doing is only 11 days so its doable. I also have to attend 4-5 on campus meeting during the spring semester beforehand (understandable).

Anyways, i found out that the trip to England satisfies requirements for my major Engineering Science: Technology Option. Im also a big fan of Democratic-Socialism and have a close friend who recently moved to Britain, so this trip is perfect!

Anyways, i have a couple questions for people currently in the UK or people who have been there before. Are there any European only console games i should pick up while im over there? Any suggestions? Also i know that legally, on the US side of things, there wont be any issue bringing foreign titles into the country, but are there any sort of anti-exportation regulations i should be aware of thats applicable to video games that England has? I dont want to screw anyrging up. If i have to go without, i will.. Thanks!

We have the nicer-looking SNES in my opinion. Just bear in mind it will be PAL so you'll need to make sure you have a compatible display.

By the way, we're not Democratic Socialist at present.

Oh and I don't know what you mean by anti-exporation regulations - I assume you mean is it prohibited to export video games. I very much doubt it. I have bought and sold games to and from abroad many times. The only thing that might happen is if you get stopped at customs on the way back in to the US then you might end up paying import tax if they realise you are importing goods and recognise the value of them.

As for the PAL display. I'm well aware of that. The import tax however, I didn't even think of though lol. I don't mind paying it though if needed. Being in the US, every item I have ever ordered from overseas has been tariff free as a lot of countries have an agreement with us to skirt that. But ya, actually being on UK soil, I'll probably get taxed. No biggie though :P. Thanks for your input!

As for the comment on Democratic-socialism, please forgive my ignorance.... :P

I live in the UK. Moved here a month ago with my American 3DS console family and European PS4.

PS4 is all fine and dandy obviously. As for the 3DSes they're hax'd so I can play anything I get here. Not that bothered about EU exclusives, we haven't got anything striking that you don't.

tl;dr don't think about it too much.

Remember some consoles such as the 3DS and Wii U are region locked, so do your research before buying anything and taking it back with you.

The US never got DoDonPachi DaiFukkatsu, a good shoot em up by cave on the Xbox 360. However it is region locked so you'd need a Jtag / RGH hacked 360 to play the game, or also bring a PAL 360 back with you.

I can't think of many games we have in the UK that never got US releases though, it's often the other way around to be honest.

Game.co.uk is the main retailer of games here in the UK and have shops in many towns and cities (Often the most expensive too).

CEX is a shop you will find in high street that specialise in pre-owned games and tech. Be careful if you buy online though as the quality of their pre owned stuff is not always great.

You want to look around on Amazon.co.uk or other online retailers here in the UK to get the best deals on gaming stuff and get it shipped to your hotel if possible.

HotUKDeals is a website where people can post good deals they find, you will often find good gaming deals both on online stores and in physical shops too.

Just keep in mind that $1.00 is worth around £0.75 at the moment, so chances are you might find gaming stuff here in the UK more expensive compared to what your used to in the US. (Any price you see will include 20% tax).
