Not all discrimination is equal

It's been a while since I thought about writing this, and since things keep happening that remind me about it, I'm going ahead.
So, it might be obvious to some, but not all forms of discrimination are equally accepted in society. Discrimination about physical features (wearing glasses, being short/tall etc.) or illnesses is generally despised by most people.
Discrimination about groups of people is where it gets tricky. Racist remarks (especially if heavily so) are also generally frowned upon. Homophobic ones are quite more accepted, but are quickly becoming less so as the LGB rights situation improves, while transphobic and sexist ones (rape jokes and such) are the most accepted. Usually, a trans person can't even point out that a statement is insulting, that it gets labeled as a joke, or that the trans person is seen as "exaggerating", or "being incapable to take jokes".
This also reflects in online communities/chatrooms, since I saw cases where a racist insult results in measures from the staff, while homophobic and transphobic ones barely result in any.

Some people may be call me sexist, especially the triggered feminists, but feminism is hardly needed anymore in first world counties. Women are paid equal to men and feminists bitch and moan about the patriarchy. Instead of focusing about discriminatory conditions in countries where women are treated like shit such as in the Middle East, they flock to Tumblr to whine over petty shit such as cultural appropriation.

I never watched this blog in the first place, is there an option to not even see it listed? Like Reddit where you can hide threads. The fact it's bumped is one thing, but then all this debate like people have nothing better to do than not leave that jester bananabananesh's post alone. It's as if someone (McWhiters9511 being the first to reply after the jester) saw this and felt like going into another socio-political chat, which this forum does not handle well at all, there's been recent examples of this happening, as one pointed it, it even tends to go way out there into religious stuff.

I made an exception to AW's post, it's her blog after all and I agree with her. The forum has a problem too with keeping their mouths shut, and only mod intervention does the trick. I expect the same result. Then again I'm propagating this bumping by posting here, but my intentions were more ranting on certain flaws of the community, not necessarily the topic at hand, which again, I'm in agreement with the OP. That being said, I'm done here.

@TotalInsanity4 - No, it means they need to learn how to. Whether its right or wrong, bullying will ALWAYS be a thing. How exactly do you plan to stop kids from teasing other kids? Ground them? Yea, that's been working great so far... Arrest them? Because that's reasonable. It may not be a pleasant truth, but it is truth none the less.

As I've said, intolerance always stems from lack of education. And there are suspensions, you know, if we're talking about school kids...

My earlier response was mostly directed towards your response on AW's "male rape" comment, though, and I figured I'd extend it to bullying as well, since it's a very real issue that drives many teens to suicide

So what are you saying then? That no one should make jokes like that because a small percentage of people MIGHT get butthurt? pls... and suspending kids won't stop them from giving other kids a hard time, time has proven that over and over.

Offtopic but RustiInPeace if you aren't interested in the discussion...leave? People can discuss what they wish as long as it doesn't go off the deep end. There's nothing really wrong with it. That's the beauty of forums (and the internet). You're just a mouse click away from not dealing with this topic, or hell you're a small mouse movement from avoiding it altogether.
I think it was kinda pointless to bump this since it notifies many people done with this topic, but the topic itself is fine to discuss.

@Aurora Wright fist off, I respect you. Your a great contributor, you do awesome work, your always friendly. I personally would never purposely attack you. But insulting someone is not discrimination. People get offended for a verity of reasons. Some of them are based on prejudice, but that still doesn't make it discrimination. Discrimination implies oppression. If there's one thing the trans community is, it's not oppressed. Especially in today's world. The shit you take for being trans is no more discrimination then any other group or individuals being offended for what ever reason. You're not a minority that's under political attack or withheld from opportunity. The only limitations you face are set by yourself. You were unfornetely born in a generation that wasn't givin the tools to persevere in the face of opposition or the understanding that other people are not required to respect you. I grew up in the age of "sticks and stones" and "rubber and glue". People are fucking aweful, and that's something we all have to deal with. But you should focus on your own life and not how people act towards the group you happen to belong to. Trying to censor people and force respect makes you the bad guy. It's call fascism.

Even I wouldn't go that far, there are absolutely people that want them thrown in a 1950's asylum and work to those ends. And there's people that don't like them and want nothing to do with them and will deny them an opportunity.

But that's the unsavory truth, the State has no right to discriminate or oppress however when dealing with a private person if it is their opportunity offer, their bathroom, their money etc. they can feel anyway they please about it and designate their resources to whomever they want and choose to associate with.

There are people that don't like my skin color, weight, height, personality or any other attributes you could sign to me and would deny me a scholarship, job, relationship, friendship or anything else.

Everyone has attributes that are disliked by someone and it is not that purpose of the state to decide who can dislike what attribute of a person and to punish accordingly.

And there's people that don't like them and want nothing to do with them and will deny them an opportunity.
Welcome to how the world works. This is the case for literally ANY group. Say you're applying for a job as a male and the person conducting your interview is an extreme feminist. What do you think your chances of getting that job are?

@jimbo13
Those people don't have the right to lock up anyone, which is why it doesn't happen.

People don't have to like anyone or have to associate with anyone they don't want.

Private people can do what ever they want with their property, including not letting people they don't like utilize them.

Trans people have all these same rights and limitations. That's why it's not discrimination.

rape jokes are a tough one. I think it completely depends of how there executed. there was a comedian (cant remember who, heard them on Pandora) who joked about a prank war with his sister. he replaced her pepper spray with silly string and she was raped. now, i'm leaving a lot out, but it was well executed, and very funny. I understand that there are people who say "rape can never be funny" but if that was the case, this wouldn't be a discussion. humor is how we as humans deal with the darkness in our society. its our ultimate coping mechanism, and it works VERY well. that's why to most people, the darkest jokes are the funniest. now there are plenty of times that jokes like this have been executed poorly. i think using a specific instance of a real person who was raped as a joke, is going too far, but i think most people automatically get that. also, if you make a rape joke, its in your best interest to do it when all the people around you to hear it are already expecting jokes like that and KNOW its a joke. that's why comedians can get away with more than us simple folk. if you don't, don't get mad at people who get offended. they weren't expecting it and have no way of knowing weather its a joke or not.

Discrimination against homosexuals or heterosexuals is on the same level and the same for discrimination against whites or blacks. Why should it not weigh the same on a scale of hatred?
