N needs... and the Genki covert Dock

Better updating system.

(note: for the Genki Ultra mini-review, skip to the end)

I own both a Reg switch and a switch lite, not sure why I bought the lite, but I'm stuck with it, and for reasons unknown, I use it more than the docked one.

I can't help but feel cheated each time I find a game that needs 'updating'. which in my mind means that the company sent the game out unfinished. I wish they would finish these before sending them out or.. OR make a way to update the cart so that the game didn't need updating once N's servers went down.

The more these games are sold depending on multiplayer and downloadable content, the more we are only 'renting' them Before someone says it, we have always only rented them.... when we bought a game cartridge at a swap meet, we owned that game, lock stock and plastic cartridge for as long as we decided to hold onto it. Now with digital, it is dependant on the battery's life and how long N will maintain the server, which we all know is not that long. That burns my britches.

That's not why I started this blog. My real bitch is the updating method of the switch. If you are like me and own/purchased more than 120 games, you have 20 lines of 6 games each. Each time I have a game that needs updating I usually go through my entire list to see what else does, so that I am not wasting time, waiting for the DL, while not playing.

That is approximately 726 buttons pressed just to find out which games need updating! That's prime time, grade A Bool Sheet!

N Needs to figure out a way, hire some coding professionals, to,... oh hell, I don't know,.... to check off a few of the games you want downloading/updating and have them done en mass, like maybe a Macro? I understand why many would not want them all done simultaneously, but to check the ones we do want after it does a check to see which ones are out of sync, It isn't a tough piece of coding to accomplish, and I know a thing or two about which I speak. The UI of the whole switch is childish at best, and don't get me started about the eshop... one shouldn't have to wait 8 years for a finished product while they add modules over an eight-year period (the device's estimated lifetime), regarding the device as a whole.

Granted, Nintendo is Brilliant at making games, but when it comes to marketing and creating user interfaces for their systems, online infrastructure; for gaming or sales, they leave much to be desired. This is why other companies hire outside help to handle that part of their business and make them, the giants they are. Nintendo is big, but just imagine how much bigger they could be. as someone once said to be...

Thanks for reading, sorry for all that salt, so here's some sugar to balance that...

One last note

Genki Covert DOckAnyone considering buying the Genki Covert Dock (Nintendo should have) go for it, I have used one for several months with no problem with my switch at all. I have not been able to get the phone functionality to work, where you project the phones media onto tv, It appears to be highly dependant on the phone model, and must be "DisplayPort" compatible devices, which few devices today are except high-end iPhones and a scant few other devices but don't let that stop you, what it does is well worth the price and can be had on sale for $50 USD with proper timing.
Also no fear of the bricking situation, that's been fixed here, I stopped using my OEM dock since getting this. my rating is 9.0 I would have rated it higher had the device not been so heavily dependant on the 'Displayport' Technology
