Just over half a decade ago, I bought my first DS flashcart from Dealextreme. I'd been debating between an R4 (an original R4, not one of the countless clones on the market today) and a card with internal memory called the N-Card. Both were around the same price (about as much as a new DS game would cost), and eventually I chose the N-Card, Despite its lack of features, I felt like it was the better choice at the time; the N-Card came with a gigabyte of internal memory, and to get that amount into an R4 at the time I'd've had to pay another $20 or $30 for a 1GB microSD. Ultimately this turned out to be a poor choice as the save battery crapped out in less than a year, and if I didn't soft reset back to the card menu every time I was done I'd lose my save file. Eventually I migrated to a DSTT, and as of a couple years ago a cheap R4, but this isn't the point of the story.
Last summer I bought a 16GB microSD card for my Android phone, so I could carry just about my entire music library on it and retire my aging MP3 player. I spent a couple extra bucks to bump the speed up to class 10, and the total cost was just over $20.
My DS library has crossed over the 2GB mark by a good bit, and today I started looking for a larger card for the Acekard 2i I'm about to order. I can get an 8GB class 4 card for around $4.50. 32GB cards cost what I paid for a 16GB card last year, and what I would've paid for single GB of space five years ago. I've been watching the prices fall for ages, but somehow I'm still amused by it. Of course, in a world of $3 R4 cards, it seems fitting enough.
