Intrusive thoughts thingie

Yes, I suffer from unpleasant intrusive thoughts very often. So when I'm in bed and it's dark I'll occasionally get intrusive thoughts, like there being a murderer in my room or something. I'll be unable to move my body, and I'll just lie there, terrified and unable to move. About a minute later I'll be able to move again and turn on my light to check.

Any1 know what this could be? Or if this is just normal human reaction.

Edit: this happens before I fall asleep.

The paralysis? Not sure if that's normal, though. Could just be sleep paralysis, if you're just waking up.

Also, maybe this will comfort you: when I was a kid, I was always afraid aliens would come up and abduct me when I was sleeping. I still have thoughts like this to this day. In other words, you're not the only one who has worried about stuff like that. ;)

It probably happens before you fall asleep because sleep paralysis happens right when you fall asleep. Sometimes you don't go fully into REM sleep and your body becomes paralyzed while you are still awake.

Sleep paralisys. That means you dont sleep enough. See, when someone is going to sleep his body "disconnects" from the brain so u wont run in sleep when u dream about running. Then all the senses (most of them) become more relaxed and your eyes stop sending what they see. Ppl who dont sleep enough sometimes get sleep paralysis which means your body already stops moving but your senses are still working, and you start imagining some voices. Because yr body doesnt move at yr will, yr brain panics and start imagining that theres something terrible happening(like murderer in yr room or smthng...) so if youll sleep properly for few days it should disapear...
 
I would say it's probably a mix between a hypnic jerk and sleep paralisys.
You can avoid sleep paralisys by being calm before going to sleep or by ajusting your sleep schedule, that must be screwed up.
I actually know quite a bit about dream related stuff, if you see that it's turning into a problem, say something, it's easy to convert that into lucid dreams , WHICH are quite pleasant ;)

you might very well not even notice you've already fallen asleep, the senses are pretty weird in total darkness and quietness.

have you considered getting a nightlight / having some music running?

there are some vids online for turning sleep paralisys into lucid dreaming, which means total controll over the dream... really cool stuff really...

Yeah you should really check out lucid dreaming! And sleep paralysis is most likely your problem!

Hmmm I am a native lucid dreamer.... when Im in a dream I can choose not to fo with its flaw... IDK why ppl say that they cant... but I can say I never had nightmares....
 
I had Sleep paralysis once before... but, i saw a green woman on top of me and she said something and I responded with no and she screamed into my face and I blinked again and she was gone and I was scared shitless...
