I'm back (kinda)

I haven't been here for what feels like a really long time (despite "only" being 5 months or so), and since between one tech support tip and another you end up making friends*, I thought it would only be fair to tell them what's up - especially after having read what happened to @alexander1970 last month :D

* Just like what happened to the ~16 survivors, me included, of the original animalcrossingitalia, com innit?

I graduated from university at the end of last november, and now am a licensed radiographer. Not saying I support appeal to authority but now I have the cred to send Game$top back the translated instructions they add in the box of the imported 3DS I bought back in 2017, saying "unauthorized modifications can result in the emission of dangerous radiation", with "Bull Shit" written below with an Ikea pencil.

I got a job for a private hospital in february. Notice how I said "for", as I actually worked door to door; that was tiring, heavy on my car and literally on my shoulders, and didn't pay THAT well, but wasn't too bad after all - both compared to most Italian's first jobs and in my own opinion, as I love driving (outside of big city traffic) and seeing the world!!

Barely 3 weeks in, I got a call from some number I didn't know, but it was from my city so no chance it was going to be spam, right? Well, it was the first hospital I applied for, and they chose me; as annoying it was for everyone involved to change employers so soon, it just was an offer I couldn't refuse, so I served the month I promised and now here I am!
Plenty of fun things I could tell you too...

Of course I had no expectations of getting a job so soon, never mind two, so I'm actually enrolled into a master too, very close to my interests but having to take a week off every month, especially given that you can be fired at will in the first 6 months, makes me quite nervous...

In the meanwhile, you can bet I've bought another crt monitor from ebay to fix - oh, and an odroid go advance since I bid 35 € on it just for fun with 2 days left nd surprisingly nobody sniped!

Volca has returned from hell (her 2nd house in tuscany, the one with family members he doesn't like too much) but as usual she's having other problems; I feel like she's really close to the end, and don't like this too much. On the other hand she stopped in Bologna last month just so that we could meet again after almost 2 years (arbitrary and probably unconstitutional government abridgements to people's freedom of movement aside, it's hard when you live 300 km apart and are living with a functionally transphobic mom), can't say I wasn't happy that day despite having walked and driven with a 38°C fever* - and "of course" the next day I was perfectly fine!

* Oh yeah, the vaccine. It became mandatory for healthcare workers three months ago, but given that I had juuuust started working I wasn't in the list, the new employer had to step in. Aside from that issue it was all fine. Maybe I should sue Pfizer asking for 2 grams of Viagra as compensation?

---

Speaking of private healthcare, I'd like to ask all readers (especially those who know this is for) a question: in mostly-private-healthcare countries such as the USA or Thailand, can you just show up with $10k or something and have your testicles removed, no questions asked beyond those of informed consent and physical fitness for the procedure?

---

So, I can't really say how active I will be nowadays, especially given I still come home very tired and honestly have other things to do in my free time (see above) - I'm still on this world, for now that is!

Can't say I've watched any, to be honest (and no cinema for sure) - although more shockingly I can say that Volca convinced me to watch anime!

Himegoto was the title, one of those 5 minute time filler series (a property which made it possible for me to watch it - my opinion stands that TV is best enjoyed from the vacuum tube and circuit board side), turned out to be kinda fun

Oh. So, I just watched some episodes of Sesame Street while you’re away. But sometimes I get to use my imagination to reimagine some of the episodes of my childhood show. Besides, Sesame Street has been aired about 50 years.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Booo.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
