I never realized how time consuming these RPGs are.

I've been playing the shit out of Black Sigil for like 3 days straight. I ran around the map with the confusing directions and wandered the caves with endless tunnels. I fought monsters a billion times and expect to be able to handle anything then get jammed by some boss after it puts me to sleep. I've died like 4 times due to normal monsters too, and I can't stand playing this game anymore. At least for a while.

Pokemon just sucks up all the time of day training them, breeding them, battling caves full of pokemon, trading them... The list goes on.

I was gonna play the latest Final Fantasy game (Echoes of Time) but 5 minutes into it, I'll shoot myself. I can't even watch the trailer of Blood of Bahamut. :(

BlackSigil... I was just recommended that game. It seems hard (the game), so I guess I won't be playing it xD

You'll understand what most RPG gamers go through. All these RPGs are time consuming. You play it a lot, while it is new. but later on, you get bored, and don't play it anymore. The only RPG that I can play through and not get bored is Pokemon and FinalFantasy III and IV.

Nothing else, since they bore me to death once I play the opening or do the prologue. Games such as FF CC, aren't that amazing. When they make a sequel to a game, it gets really boring since they use the exact same gameplay style, exact same classes etc etc. But Pokemon is an exception. You can play through straight and most people don't get bored. But then, once you use cheats, you will get bored easily, so just don't use em'

Not really, I don't see how anybody could play more than 1 pokemon game. I played Blue to death on my GBC years ago, and I haven't been able to get into a pokemon game since because they're all the same damn game. At least most sequels try to be subtle about reusing mechanics, the goddamn Pokemon creators are lazier than the guys at Capcom who come up with Megaman villains, and all they do is look at shit on the desk and say "Oh look, WalletMan, PackofcigarettesMan and LighterMan" "Would Lighterman be too similar to other fire bosses that we've already had?" "Who gives a shit? People will buy it anyway". The Pokemon guys just get high and say shit like "Hey let's put a mohawk on a fish!", and repeat the process until they have roughly 100 or so new pokemon.

xDD. I'd have to agree though. The names they give? All suck... But you'd have to say, after that comparison, the two companies are pretty much alike.

I wonder what the next gen. villains will be named... PotMan, HighMan xDD

For Pokemon, I guess you can say that too. But they are beginning to suck too. I mainly just play it, because I have friends who still play it. Mainly, I play with them, but what is weird for me is that I never get bored.

EDIT: Yesh. Siggy material!

To be fair, the 3 main Pokemon games are among the best DS games. If it ain't broke.....

Also, I find Pokemon less repetitive than Mario and Metroid, in terms of how similar one game is to the previous in the series..

I agree RPG's are time consuming. And they get boring after some time.

Pokemon is an exception as said above. I dont know how many hours I spent on Pokemon Silver(probably 1000+ hours or more....definately more). Was dissapointed the first time after finding out, that nothing actually happens after you catch all pokemons...
So nowdays, I dont collect for Pokedex anymore. Alot has been discovered, and it evolved into a stratgie game.
But POKESAV RUINED THE GAME!

I play all day/night long to get a pokemon with good IVs and other people just do it within 30 seconds, only requires editing some numbers---

Another RPG that I also played continiously was Golden Sun/2. I still play it through now and then.

Wait, if they're consuming all your time getting all those EV's, why would you say Pokesav ruined the game, if it saves you all that time? I'm just curious, I might be misunderstanding your post.

Anyhow, I have like 6 different RPG's I need to finish, and everytime a good one comes out, I die a little inside....

Well, I used PokeSav for after the traditional game or just to skip some hard times where I needed leveling. It's an easy way to get your ideal party for competitive battling without all the grinding and searching.

As for RPG's in general, back in the day that was "lasting appeal". Nowadays games have storylines that last you maybe an hour or two but give you months worth of playtime online.

fix'd
I think I can't count how many RPGs I've started but haven't finished.
Though I'm trying to force myself to finish RPGs or any and everything I leave unfinished now, since I think it may have some kind of negative repercution on my future life.

It's funny because one of RPGs biggest draws (length) can also be considered one of their biggest downsides as well. Finding that balance in length is hard to achieve sometimes because people complain if it is too short, and also complain if it is too long. Honestly Chrono Trigger, and FF IV DS felt just right. Heck, you might even be able to beat them in two days if you try.

I think Chrono Trigger, and many SNES era RPGs are what people call "20 hour RPGs", because that's how long they roughly take to beat during the first playthrough. It's also a pretty good length because it isn't too time consuming, and as you said can be beaten within a weekend if you play nonstop.

Once the PSX Era hit this almost doubled (FFIX took me about 32 hours first playthrough, I think) and now there are RPGs out there that boast to be 70+ hours long. Honestly, Persona 3 was a great game but 70+ hours? Fuck.
