So my package for the casemod arrived two days ago. One day later, I find that my friends who were going to help me replace the case bailed on me for half a week, so I took matter into my own hands, asking my dad for some assistance in doing this rather complex task.
Of course, being some DealExtreme products, things did not go perfectly well.
For one, the paint was slightly peeled on the hinge, both inside and out. Oh well, not a whole lot we could do there.
For the other, my hinges were on INCREDIBLY FREAKING tight. My father helped get these out, and accidentally tore some skin on his fingers when he slipped a screwdriver.
Lastly, the screws they supplied to us did not coincide at all with the case. We had to mix and match with the original parts and the supplied ones. At one point, when we were hooking up the mobo, none of the screws would fit: either being waaay too tight, or the holes being simply too big for the screws. We solved this in a combination of hollowing out the tight ones with some very small screwdrivers, and made the huge ones smaller by using some plastic foil, and making enough friction to cause it to become more viscious, and allowing us to mold the foil to the screw safely. Highly unorthodox, possibly not even safe, but everything worked out.
A few surprises came with this:
Hearing that the hinges would be degraded, I feared the worst. However, when completed, I found the crankier hinge much more comfortable to hold at angles, due to the sturdiness.
The build quality is surprisingly good, with the exception of the screwholes.
Fearing that I'd lose that feeling that you get from using a DS for a few years, I reused the plastic underneath the buttons. To my surprise, the buttons have never felt more comfortable to use, ever.
This may be because My original case got bruised up and shook around a lot back in the day.
And I guess that's it. I've been thinking, now that I've changed the case, what's next? This is a question for you, Tempers! I'm willing to give anything a go for a cool, unique NDS
I'm thinking of adding a crest/decal on it, much like this guy did: http://gbatemp.net/t288030-new-hyrule-royal-crest-3ds
Hell, I might just ask this guy to send me one of those crests for some money![big grin :D :D](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
