Hackintosh

I recently purchased a Dell mini 10v and today I hackintoshed it. Currently I'm only booting OSX but would like to eventually dual boot Windows 7 or XP.

I found a sweet little guide online that helped me out a lot. If any one is interested in doing a really easy hackintosh the 10v is as easy as it gets for the most part.

Here is a pic of it.

I'm kind of liking OSX and will definitely reconsider getting a real Mac some time.

Not real hard. I found the guide I used with all the files needed minus the actual OS on a public torrent tracker. There are also various guides on this forum. This model dell mini is one of the easiest netbooks to setup but there are a few others as well. I used this compatibility chart in my buying decision.

I'm still on 10.6.0 but there are guides to take it all the way up to 10.6.6. I'm still just messing around with the OS, but I'll update to 10.6.6 soon.

Edit: I'll also add that this only cost me a little under 300$ to do and I think it is a great alternative to paying 1,000$ + for a real Mac.

But the real Apple hardware is much more sexy. So yeah, get a Mac soon. :)

Is that the new Dell you got? Since that to me looks like a netbook.
I should learn to read.

No this is not my Laptop I bought last month. This is a Dell mini 10V ( a netbook) I snagged off of ebay for 230$ shipped. I then needed to buy an external DVD drive which I got off newegg for 40$ shipped.

Nice.

I once tried on my netbooks (eee 701 and Zoostorm 10something) installation failed on the zoostorm and although it works on the 701 it's unusable on such a small screen.

Have got it running nicely in a VM on my desktop, certainly don't use it enough to warrant purchasing a mac though.

Are you using the retail OS X disk?

Since I thought you need one for hackintosh?

Thats what they would like you to belive. You do however need a retail windows disc from what I understand. I'll find that out for sure tho later.

It actually runs really well on the mini 10v and is quite stable from my experince.

Oh well. A Mac OS X disk isn't that expensive anyway.

I know its only 29$ but I did not want to be out the 29$ if I could not get it working. I'll probably end up buying one now that I know I can get it to install.

I primarilly just want to have windows with me where ever I go ( mostly work ). It can play a few games, but not anything recently released. To be honest that don't bother me one bit as I'm not really a big PC gamer anymore.

And you need a reatil Windows disc to install Windows- OH WAIT! A wild Pirate appeared. Pirate used Torrent. Pirate gained Mac OSX disk.
A well encoded "backup" disc could probably trick the Hackintosh programs into running them OR the programs themselves could be editted to not require a retail signature.

Jams' lawyers would like to point out that he does not condone piracy and is just stating the possibility that someone could gain such a program.
Jams' Lawyer earned his $2000 on the spot fee
Jams is out of usable money
Jams was bankrupted.

Yeah...I've been playing too much Pokemon...

Oh there's a simple way of making a portable Hackintosh that just requires a Mac PC (or Hackintosh) and an 8GB storage medium. Oh, and a USB bootable computer. Can't remember the name of it though unfortunately :(

You can do that with out a Mac now. I read it on the forums I linked on page 1.

I'd love to try it but my PC is too crappy to boot from USB so meh. Maybe once I have my Sony Vaio E-Series laptop.
Thanks anyway

When your ready you might want to go to the tonymac blog and forums for help with that model. That seems like a great community of hackintosh enthusiasts.

I joined there, but have not posted. I only read as much as I could to try and understand more on the subject.

When they say "retail," they mean an unmodified image.

Whether or not you actually purchased a physical copy of the OS is not germane.

Yeah I understood that part and they also mean not OEM too... don't they?
