IIRC, this should only happen if you have unticked 'manually manage music'.

Unfortunately the only way to backup music is through something like ifunbox or to use itunes in the first place to sync music (method I use).

On topic:
I don't like how the sync and file operations work with apple devices, but not because of the devices but the iOS. I think it's kind of tedious unless you get used to it. But i'm almost sure that what happened was your fault for not checking an option or something like that, so that's not Apple's fault. :/

@Felek666 To be honest, Apple is shit. But let's be honest: iPad is a beast.

My girlfriend has an iMac, an iPad and an iPhone. I have tested the three of them and here are my results:
-> iMac : It has a BEAUTIFUL screen (it looks impressive, wow) but that's all. If you use it for work it can be great, I guess, but for the overall usage, you can get a PC for half or even less the price with the same or better specs. (I wouldn't recommend it unless you're gonna work with it.)
-> iPad : It is brutal. It has an old hardware (2GB of RAM for example the one that my girlfriend has), but even with it, it works like a charm. In a normal usage, the battery can last for up to 15 or 16 hours (if you aren't a dumbass with the brightness at it's maximum, of course) and for playing, it works basically perfect. The con with the iPad is, it's price. But if you can afford it, it's a great buy (even better than most tablets out there. But since I haven't tested the newer android tablets, I can't assure the iPad is better).
-> iPhone : It is okay, but totally overpriced. I'd go for a phone for the half the price and it would be more or less the same powerful (without including it's GPU because its GPU is the best for mobile devices as of now).

I see a lot of hate against Aplle. First, @OP, this is entirely YOUR fault for not syncing your music with iCloud and for doing unautghorized modifications. You are blatantly lying by saying there's no backup system also.
And how is iPhone 2006 technology? The latest iPhones perform about as fast, if not faster than other Android phones with 4 times more RAM. Apple is a beast in optimization. Still, it's not outdated technology at all. iPhone being overporiced is bullshit. Until the Samsung S8's release, the iPhone 7 was the most performing phone on the market, with the Galaxy S7 being 1 year late because of the Note 7 shit. RAm does mean NOTHING. Android is so poorly optimized that it lags with 6 GB RAM, while iDevices perform better with wayless RAM. The iPad Pro is obviously the best and more powerful tablet on the market, bar the Google Pixel C and the Nvidia Shield Tablets. And iMacs were overpriced, but the latest announcement shows finally not-outdated GPUs and CPUs, and add the 5K screen with that, you obtain a far less overpriced all-in-one.

Anyways yes, but it's quite normal that a phone from 2 years ago is slightly outdated And actually iOS has become much more open than in the iOS 6 days where all was locked. Now you have third-party plugins, widgets;, keyboards, you can remove the native apps, etc. It's nowhere like 2010 where the only way to go was Jailbreaking

I already corrupted my 900 GB Windows 10 partition by messing up with the Ubuntu installer, and I didn't say MS was responsible It's just that if the OP didn't save his data, it isn't Apple's fault. Plus, there is a backup history, so I don't even think these songs are really lost I have always been the first to say how iMacs for example were highly overpriced back in the days, but this is becoming less and less true (Especially with the fact that a 5K 27" monitor costs almost $2,000). But their other products are good and reliable, especially battery-wise. My father's iPad Pro lasts day-long with max luminosity And the iPhone 7 is a good phone, compared to the similar competition.

The fact that you need 6 GB of RAM for a phone is ridiculous anyways. I hate Android for its bad optimization.

Bruh, Android is smooth. You even had a good Android phone with 6GB of RAM where only 540mb with clean OS, 954mb with crapware are used and rest is available for you?

I can confirm (as I said) that the iPads (in my case iPad 4th Gen) are beast. Never used a tablet as smooth as iPad is.
Now, iMac is overpriced (holy fuck this iMac I'm using at the moment costs +-2000€ for 3,3 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 and
AMD Radeon R9 M290 2048 MB. Copy-pasted from "About this Mac..." option) and the 5K screen), so if you say that it isn't overpriced or its overprice its justified, please use valid arguments). And iPhone, it can be good even with those specs, but the reason that iPhone (or iOS) is better than android is because android is freaking rubbish. And because of that, better doesn't mean good, and here we go again, overpriced (minimum 700€ or as I've seen, less in some websites lol).
