Educating the masses

I just made a post on Craigs in regard to people selling consoles in the Rants and Raves section. Im hoping it will catch attention.

This is what I posted:

Times are tough, and it seems what fetches a quick buck these days are game consoles. People sell them on a daily basis, and you'll find no shortage of them on craigslist. That being said, there are a lot of idiots selling their consoles. A lot of them just wasting people's time and energy. So, for those people (and you most likely know who you are), here are a few common sense guidelines for selling your video game console.

1. Put up a detailed ad of everything you are selling. Yeah, you have a Xbox 360 for sale, but What model is it? what games come with it? what cords come with it, etc..

2. Selling your console + games in a lot is fine, but refusing to "break it up" is fucking ridiculous. Just last week I contacted someone to buy their PSP. they had it listed in a lot with a PS3, and about 20 various games. They refused to break up the PS3 and the PSP. Now tell me, how many people really want to be forced into buying a PSP and a PS3 at the same time, plus all the shitty games YOU bought? Not many, and certainly not at the price you posted. Sell your shit separately. you might have things left over, but some money is better than no money. Hell, you might even come out better than you expected if you put a small premium on the items to break them up.

3. Don't be offended if someone asks to test your console to make sure it works. This is craigslist, and the person who just called you is NOT a long time friend that should trust every word that falls out of your gob. If the roles were reversed, you most likely would ask the same.

4. Be honest. No one wants to drive halfway across town to check out a "lightly used, adult owned Xbox 360" to find out it looks like it was dragged through the desert on the back of a dirt bike, and doesn't read games half of the time. And, most likely that person who just came to see this beat up Xbox 360 will tell everyone on craigs that you are a dirty filthy scammer. Whether this is true or not, it will still be said. Just be up front about the condition of your console.

5. I suppose this goes for anything being sold on craigs, but don't be a flake. If you say you'll be at a certain place at a certain time, be there. Or at least let the person know that you'll be late. Don't have your buyer sit in the KFC parking lot for an hour, just to show up and tell them that you had unexpected dinner guests.

  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
How Fars your TV from your monitor just order a long hdmi cable
  • _Ruri_ @ _Ruri_:
@K3Nv3, Not super far but it's in the opposite direction so I'd have to turn around everytime I want to look at the second screen
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
Could you do some rearranging to make them closer to each other?
  • _Ruri_ @ _Ruri_:
Nope, my house is structured a bit weird so it can't get closer than this
  • _Ruri_ @ _Ruri_:
Cost isn't really the problem, I can just buy a random monitor or even just use an old tv, real problem is that my desk is too small
  • _Ruri_ @ _Ruri_:
And buying another isn't an option rn so rip
  • Skelletonike @ Skelletonike:

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Buy monitor wall mounts, or a monitor stand that holds multiple monitors
  • _Ruri_ @ _Ruri_:
@BigOnYa Can't wall mount the monitor since I don't have enough space and my current desk 99% wouldn't hold the weight. Even if I did replace the desk I still wouldn't have more space for another monitor :/ but maybe it could fit vertically

  • _Ruri_ @ _Ruri_:
@Skelletonike, Tried it with my iPad and it's decent but not as good as a proper monitor unfortunately, and Windows -> iOS connection kinda sucks, if I have to spend money for another tablet then I'd prefer to spend them for a proper monitor tbh
  • _Ruri_ @ _Ruri_:
Even if I can wall mount the monitor I wouldn't have enough space for the speakers (and they take like ~25% of the desk space lol)
