My Chinese "School" is amazing.

In my Chinese "School" you are punished for being stupid. In other words, you get more than 3 words incorrect and the teacher will hit your hand with a wooden ruler. It's a test we take every week which is basically just memorizing a sentence and write it down. It's 3 hours long from 9 AM to 12 AM and it costs $70 a month, which means 9 hours = $70. At the end of the class, you take ANOTHER test which is basically writing down words you've learned before. I would quit at the 1st moment possible if my mom wasn't such an asshole about it.

We're supposed to learn words, but because of the way they run the place, we just end up memorizing sentences instead.
Awesome. Sounds like a school I'd like to teach in.
All the students will love you.

Things I might do if I was in your position:

1. slap myself with a wooden ruler before the teacher could have the pleasure

2. moan sensually when the teacher slaps me

3. slap the teacher with my own wooden ruler

4. refuse to be slapped / dodge slaps

Not in an ordinary school.

Apparently OP's Chinese school.

The ones that let the teachers hit the students.

(Nun schools I believe allow this, but they need the parents consent in writing.)

It's quite legal here in Canada as well. As that section of the Charter apparently does not apply outside of government corporations/facilities.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is what my Civics teacher told our class :P.

Shhhh...... Thanks. xD

Lol...I wouldn't do well in a school like that, i'd probably get kicked out the first time the teacher even dared to try hit me. I'd take the ruler and hit back.

Technically it's a private school, since you pay for it. As for corporal punishment, they can do whatever they want as long as the parents consent.

As a related note, speaking with experience, nothing is more harmful to a child than a "stereotypical Asian-American" upbringing. It may work back in your home country, but the culture is so different in Western countries that your children just end up socially repressed.

I wouldn't call it a school, per se. It's just some person's house and they teach from there.

I still come back sometimes, just not quite as often. :yayps3:

private or not you aren't allowed to hit a child in the US. parents don't have the right to hit their own children even less to give permission to someone else to hit their children.

does that help you remember? might be annoying but if it helps teach you... the end justifies the means
kidding, your mom shouldnt be doing this, but see the bright side of things- hopefully your chinese will get better

Hey that's fairly normal o.o Hit your hand with a ruler only. Big deal? I always got hit up to 40+ times on my hand for not doing homework. With a cane or plastic ruler :)

Of course it's a generalization, but it does happen quite a bit. It's hard for Asian parents to understand that tertiary education is not nearly as competitive as Asian countries. It's not something you can explain to them because they just won't get it. It's not necessarily a bad thing in most cases, but it can be.

Finally got an appointment with an ENT, but it's not for another month. It's already been 4- days of loud ringing in my left ear, substantial pain on left side of my neck and left side on the back of my head. Doctors here at the regular clinic put me on a couple different meds for a month that did absolutely nothing, then they told me there's nothing more they can do for me despite being in pain and my ear sounding like im underwater and ringing.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Then three chiropractor appointments which also didn't help at all so i didn't go to the 4th. Been trying to get ahold of this ENT clinic out of town for a week and finally got an appointment set up. But its not til the 17th of July so I have to suffer all this shit for nearly another month.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
I hope relief from all of this is on the way because I've felt so defeated and severaly lacking in sleep because of the pain and ringing.

@Psionic Roshambo No idea. Clinic put me on Prednisose for 5 days, then Augmentin for 10 days, then Prednisone for another 15 days. When that was done and there was absolutely no change, I went to the chiropractor. Had three appointments where he cracked my neck and spine. No change so i didn't go back to the 4th appointment.
