My NDS Phat's hinge broke.

Well first off my bro decides he wants my ds lite so he just takes it and I'm stuck with my old phat nds.

Earlier today I went to my room to play some FFIV, but when I opened it up, I heared a crack and half of the hinge falls off.
It still works but I'm afraid of snapping the top part off whenever I open it up.

Have the same problem with my DS Lite. My little sister sat on it while it was lying open on a bed :hateit:

Now, it still opens and closes, but there is no middle position - it can't hold itself into the "semi-open" state. Add to that the serial # sticker that peeled off, and a completely unsensitive touch screen, thanks to some serious Elite Beat Agents play sessions.

Same thing happened to me, so I called Nintendo, told them I dropped it. They said you can either send it back, or pay $60 and keep it and we will send you a new one. So I payed $60 and got a blue DS Phat. (This was way back when the DS first came out.)

It's a limited edition winds & springtime scent. There wasn't enough light in my room.

I've had this ds phat for 2 years now, my warranty has ended, so I don't think I can send it back. I might just save up for a new ds lite.

Do Phats have a tendency towards the hinges breaking? I'd heard of that for the Lites quite a bit. I've had a release day phat (sitting next to me at work right now roffel) that hasn't snapped yet... now i scared.

No, the lites are the only ones which have the hindge break. The phats are fine.

Ok, thats what i THOUGHT. But i wasn't sure. And i know how things can blowup really quick.. AND i'm an over-reacter. So i need to calm the fork down.

Same thing happened to my phat a good 2 years ago (a 4 1/2 foot drop onto pavement) but despite how bad it looks, it really isn't that bad so long as you store it somewhat securely. I still used mine for a year after the break and it's still fine to this day (although I upgraded to a lite because my phat was starting to wear out in other ways as well).

PS: don't even try glue

I've just decided to order a new case for it.

And I'm going to wait and see if Nintendo brings out a DS redesign.

Edit: just ordered my case from Deal Extreme.
Is there a detailed guide on how to replace the shell, I don't want to screw things up.

Okay I just learned that Dealextreme's NDS shells don't come with new hinges...
But I don't think my hinges are broken, it looks as though it's just the plastic ring is broken.
