I'm moving to Canada!

I was awarded a scholarship to go study in Canada for my second year of uni (and Austrailia....but I don't like the heat, so that was out), and as such, in a few short weeks I shall be leaving my beloved Northern Ireland and real Guinness for the great white north.

Before I start the learning process, I have a couple of weeks to kill. What's good to see and do in Ontario- specifically Toronto, Kingston and thereabouts?

Canadians are presumably going to be the most knowledgable, but others can comment if they have any insights.

Also, the people, any important do/don't social faux pas, etc, etc I should be aware of?

I'm Canadian :D

I don't live near Ontario but when I went there two years ago I enjoyed going to the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum).

dude if you get a place and you have to pay for your electricity CALL IN ADVANCE. so many international students are dumbasses because of this.

good luck with your studies enjoy north america its a great place to be

Nothing really special in Toronto(imo). Probably because I'm used to everything.
In Toronto, be sure to visit the CN Tower (a no brainer), the Art Gallery of Ontario, Ontario Science Center (sadly, the only thing I like about it is the IMAX :P) and Casa Loma. I personally would also visit the Old City Hall just for some sightseeing.

If possible, visit the Algonquin Provincial Park. It's an amazing place! If you come between July and September, prepare for some extreme heat!

LOL.
it's hot here too.
yesterday it felt like 40 degrees Celsius.

when you get here,
check out the CN Tower (tourist spot), Ontario Science Center, Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), Eaton Center [a shopping mall].

that's all i got.

If you're in Toronto, might as well check out Pacific Mall, it's just outside of Toronto, in Markham.

Heh, that's where my cousins live!

Like Splych said, don't forget to visit the CN Tower, its really, really tall and there's a really nice view.

Really. Period.

@Splych: Yeah, it was scorching out there. my cousins and my siblings and i love going to our basement, its cold enough. ^_^

EDIT: Oh yeah, check out a supermarket call "nofrills", no frills, the food brands "no name" and "President's Choice" are really good!

Careful, there's sun here. My cousin is working in Ireland and he got some disease from not enough sunlight. But yay for coming here, we rock :P
You said Kingston, so I'm assuming Queens. I'm at McMaster, but my cousin went to queens and it's quite the drive to Toronto from there. If you need anything you can always ask the forum!

Why didn't you come to Australia. It's not hot here, it's between -4 degrees celsius and 10 degrees celsius here. :glare:

I think more than tourist spots will help this guy out, since he's living there for a year or so haha!
Like places to hang out and mope around and feel homesick, inadvertently get into a fight and be sexually assaulted by a Canadian Temper.

Kingston??? Oh my god, I go to the Royal Military College of Canada at Kingston, the civilian university here is Queens. It's not the greatest city in the world, but it is beautiful, small... The main attraction here is the Royal Military College as it has a beautiful campus.

haha, the basement is the coldest place in my house too x].
No Name... President's Choice is better :D

Other places...
Pacific Mall (P-Mall short form), Eaton Center, YorkDale Mall, Vaughn Mills Mall. P-Mall is like the whole azn mall. Eaton Center, YorkDale and Vaughn Mills are shopping centers with a bunch of those stores you'd find in the states or are those formal stores (eg. American Eagle, Aeropostale, Tommy Hilfiger).

Try going to Wonderland Amusement Park. is open during the summer and fall season. best to go with friends, so make some ASAP!
