I just had to let everyone know this - I couldn't believe this when I read it in today's national newspaper

BARMY council chiefs are offering to print application forms for taxi driver licences in BRAILLE.

The document also boasts that it is avaliable in large print or an audio format for those with sight problems.
Applicants can download the form on Lib Dem-controlled Portsmouth City Council's website .

A notice at the end reads:
"You can get this Portsmouth City Council information in large print, Brialle or audio."

The council - which is a member of the Plain English Campaign - defended the form

Who on earth would employ a blind TAXI driver ????

I'm pretty sure that doesnt mean hiring blind drivers. It just means licenses will have brail that way a blind person whos taking the taxi can see if hes legit.

Stupid, eh? I definitely wouldn't want to have a blind guy as my taxi driver.

In my book an "application for licence" means you got to fill it in to get one to allow you to do whatever it's for whether it's Drivers, TV, Passport or whatever

Anyway, odds are everyone has to take a road test to be a taxi driver, and odds are anyone whose blind or hard of sight would fail... Or so I'd think.

They'd probably drive better than those damn gypsy cab drivers.

Sort of driving I see most mini cab drivers doing, letting a blind man do it would be an improvement.
