Retro Review...to return?

I'm thinking of bringing this back but also have film/TV/music reviews as well.

Thoughts?

Yay retro review was great but so do film/tv/music reviews. hmmmm how bout you change depending every time so 1st retro, 2nd film 3rd Tv 4th Music rinse and repeat.

Keep up the great work

I thought 5 or so game reviews then two reviews each for film, TV & music. Pretty sure I can get members content for them, even then I could easily review albums if no one else does.

Its mainly a video game forum so it will have more games than anything else.

Now that sound like a plan :D

But you have to remember when review music you have to review all different genres, well most as diff people like different things. Like imo i like a bit of everything but atm my friend took me to see all time low and i liked them so im listenin to alot of them

Review some of your favourite retro games mate.

That sounds quite wrong. Requires a comma, or else it sounds like you want to give Hadrian a handjob... Although who wouldn't? :creep:

If you're gonna do retro TV shows, go review Charles in Charge.

You Americans and your attempts to teach English people the English language! :P lol

I'd like to do a retro game review for the original Rayman from 1995. I've been replaying it recently. It was one of my first video games I got on PC (besides that edutainment crap) and I still appreciate it to this day. Hadrian/Thordrian, if you want me to write one, let me know, I'll see what I can cook up. ;)

If you want some help slap me and wake me up... I have been a bit lazy about doing stuff for the 'temp lately.

You should do more music reviews. Give Led Zeppelin high scores :yay:

Edit: What the fuck am I saying?! They deserve 100% scores!

Oh and Aerosmith, Rise Against, iron Maiden, Zakk WYlde stuff and Bon Jovi too. Thanks.

All is welcome and Dommy you could review something yourself.

At the moment I have a film, a album and a game. Stuff I review will pretty much be none mainstream stuff. I don't mind the odd mainstream review, but for me this thread is more about bringing stuff to people that they may of not heard of.

@Granville: That would be cool, get started :yay:
@Guild McCommunist: Never heard of it but go for it!

Well the idea of the threads so far was that its a community project so it wont jsut be me reviewing stuff. Like with the games it'll be varied but it does depend on who reviews.

I was thinking of having some sort of homebrew game review but one that wasn't released this century and seeign that you seem to know homebrew do you know of any old ones?

As to everyone else, I welcome all. It doesn't matter to me how good a review is, its a community project and if someone doesn't like a certain review they can skip it. TrolleyDave, I'll always accept a "hand" from you.

Before we get right back to the early consoles that ran on BASIC and the like or start looking at the amiga which I would argue can stand in there with anything made by a bigger company (you have had plenty of those sort of games already in the existing reviews*) we had public domain code (usually shortened to PD and indeed that is what is used in tags for rom collections, homebrew is a somewhat new term that rose to prominence with the open source movement).

I would never disparage a cracktro or homebrew unless it truly deserves it (usually by way of a claim of the author) but aside from demos/cracktros, slideshow apps (usually pornographic), text readers and the odd big 4 game (pong, tetris, space invaders, asteroids sort of thing) which were more proof of concept than anything else (lacking polish is putting it mildly) there was little or nothing. Any emulation was hardware related (think N64 GB/GBC stuff or the glory days or lik sang) or a hijacking of an official emulator usually as the power was not there to pull off full speed emulation.

*I am not sufficiently bored to dig out a copy of Zzap!64, transcribe it, debug and review a game someone sent in either.

I'd love to do a review for the Retro Review, but I still have to decide which game to do

Probably Ultima 6?

Cool RGR is returning!

I may sit this one out as there's lots of interest for it, but I will definitely contribute to the next one.

Good idea including films and music, I wouldnt mind doing some classic film reviews. (Im not that into music though)

That was a fine game, we could do with some of those style RPG's on the DS.

I'm going to do one C64 game and one Amiga game, gonna fire the C64 up later and make a start...hopefully the disk drive wont fail on me, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. If fail I may have to go the emulation route as its a game I really want to review.

Already got one music review sorted in my mind. Aiming for a end of the month posting.

Yeah, I loved Ultima 6. It is also one of my first PC games ever.

I could do some Amiga reviews too (just got my Amiga 1200 Tower Kit in the post, can't wait to towerize my 1200!), since I've got lots and lots of fond memories playing it :D

I've also recently got a C64C, now I just need to build a Video Cable for it... Too bad I haven't got a single game for it :(

I wanna review SNES games, if I'm allowed to help out. Gotta get more in tune with GBAtemp again!
